I've had mine for a week now and have been using the panasonic es10 via component. However as I have a habit of recording stuff at the same time as watching a good movie on DVD I am also using my 5 year old Sony 725d via component and to be honest the PQ via the Sony appears to be almost as good as the panny even though it does not output progressive scan.
I feel then that surely there is gotta be a major difference using one of the cheaper HDMI equipped players such as Samsung 950. My main concern with most of these cheaper player is the use of the Faroudja scaling chipset which in the past caused macroblocking especially with Panasonic plasmas.

What are all you fellow 500 owners using and how do you find they perform.

Yes that would be interesting to hear what people are doing. Mine is due next Friday - same set up including the DMRES10 which will be connected via component video. What is PQ really like then?

PQ via SKY and inbuilt freeview is better than any other screen you will probably have seen. I was prepared to be dissapointed by off air broadcast but   i'm not. However upon first switch on its set to dynamic picture mode which is :thumbsdow so move it to normal and back off the contrast and brightness to below 50% and smile!

Dont read the problem page unless you think there is one as it will make you paraniod

I dont believe the Samsung HD850 and 950 use Faroudja scaling.

945 had DCdi by Faroudja plastered on the front of it and the 950 is almost the same so I thought it did. Either way I'd like to hear of anyone using one with a PV500

As far as I know the S97 is discontinued but it would have been first choice as I assume its compatable with ram discs. Must be a new model due soon.

I am using a Denon 2910 via HDMI with my PV500. The picture (and sound) is far and away the best I have ever had. Bought a Toshiba SD350E last week - took it back after 2 days and got the Denon. The Tosh had good PQ but was an awful machine - couldn't remember settings etc. Might have been faulty but wasn't impressed.
