Hi,

After a bit of hunting for fixed screens and realising they cost a fortune i've come across this.

http://www.diytheatre.com/default.htm

has anyone used their products and are they any good? I emailed the guys there and they were even able to recommend the specifc product based on my projector and lighting conditions so their service seems pretty good but will the product cut the mustard?

Hi

I went down the DIY fixed screen route about 8 months ago and have what I think is a very good picture using MDF and a paint mixture used by other folk on these forums. The cost was minimal compared to buying a fixed screen itself. If you are interested in details (cost, exactly what used etc), let me know and I will PM it to you.

PS - Although I am very happy with the picture, it is always in the back of your mind `can it be better?`, which is why I looked at your post in the first place. Whilst watching Waterworld last night (in SD), I found myself thinking the picture couldn`t be any better, and I am now happy with what I`ve got.

Cheers

Hi Guys, if you're concerned about the cost of a framed screen then we sometimes have surfaces available without the frames or material from motorised screens. This means that you can have a screen that is uniform all over, flat when properly applied to a frame and doesn't need sanding down. As the surfaces are Matte White with a gain of 1 there won't be any sparklies or hotspots. PM with sizes required if you're interested.

Hi Oublie and ddlooping. Details as follows.....

MDF first primed/sealed with stainkiller :

ZINSSERS BULLSEYE ODOURLESS PRIMER SEALER STAINKILLER

Then 2 coats of mixture :

5 parts DULUX LUMITEC LIGHT & SPACE RICH MATT WHITE
1 part CRAIG & ROSE OPULENCE METALLIC PAINT SENSUAL SILVER

I got the lumitec (2.5lts) and primer (750ml) from a local paint specialist for about £25, but I would think any DIY store would sell them.

The silver was about £17 delivered from `craig&rose.com`

Whether the primers properties have contributed to the image I don't know, as that was just something I thought would be needed. If it has helped, it was a fortunate guess.

Hope this is of some help. I would be interested to know how you get on.

Cheers
