Hi guys, I've got a serious problem with my PC.
It fires up like a jet engine, then coughs, splutters and dies when trying to boot up.
I think it's because I overclocked it a while back and the cooling gel has turned to concrete.
Either way, I can't afford a new one at the same spec right now.

I had a bad experience with PC World last year and don't want to take it back there.
I've found a Geek Squad in my local Car Phone Warehouse.
But I'm not sure about taking my PC there, because Car Phone Warehouse probably only knows about phones right?

Anyway, I hear that Geek Squad are pretty big in the US, but can someone tell me if they've used them in the UK and if they're any good over here?

    Cheers :smashin:

Sounds like you have an idea what is wrong with it so why not try to sort it yourself. If you only need to reapply the thermal paste (I think thats what you mean) it will be pretty straight forward

Check the ram and undo and overclocking setting and see if you get the same issue

Hi, I do have a geek squad policy on my phone and I can tell you its pretty good. I dropped my HTC one x and cracked the screen. I went to carphone warehouse and they gave me a new one straight away. All I had to do was give them a few details and pay the £60 excess and got a brand new replacement handset.

    Hope this helps.

Weren't the girls at PCWorld called GeekSquad for a sort period of time?

I would agree with LJx, try sorting it yourself as you know what the issue may be.

I used to work for Geek Squad down in London. I can tell you from experience that Geek Squad "Agents" are quite different from the usual. There is a huge focus on culture and right attitude and ofcourse technical know-how ( no pun intended there ). An experienced Agent with a lab should be able to diagnose and fix most of the computer issues, since they have specialist softwares to help as well. We used to look at mobiles, tablets, computers and sometimes even consoles etc...

And yes Geek Squad are really big in US, and now have Agents in many countries across Europe.
If you can fix it yourself, go ahead, otherwise I will thouroughly recommend Geek Squad.
