I had come across this hybrid of putting the 3-flange ER-4 rubber tips on Koss The Plug or SparkPlug phones, plus a few other tweaks to improve sound quality (cover the rear vent holes with tape, add a tiny bit of foam behind the driver, and a tiny strip of foam over the sound tube). Has anyone tried this? If so, any tips? I can get the SparkPlug for $10 per pair (buy.com) and ER-4 tips for about $3/pair, so I plan to experiment. I'll report back; just wondering if anyone else has tried to tweak this combo.

I did a similar thing before the etymotics became so readily available. Koss plug with the foam tweaks found on the net. Then I used the rubber flanges from a pair of commercial musicians earplugs adjusted to fit. They produce fantastic sound.

I just tried to upgrade to a pair of ER6i's and am reaady to throw them in the bin. They suck compared to the Kosses and are 4-5 times the price. They have no bass or midrange. And please no one tell me that I am not inserting them properly. I am. They just suck. The Kosses are also incanal earphones and I have had three pairs of them with much success.

I bought them in a music shop when I used to live in Amsterdam. The same set of flanges has lasted me three sets of Kosses. One set was acciddently cut by scissors and the other set got trashed when I was wearing them during a motorbike accident but the same set of flanges is still ok. I can't remember how much they were.

I would just use a set of the etymotic flanges as they are easy to find. Have a look on google and you can find some easy tweaks for the Kosses using foam that really improve the sound. I hope the tweaks work with the new model. I don't think they have changed the design that much have they?

Here is a link to the shop where I bought them:

It's not in English and I can't find the earplugs on the website, but as I said I would just get the Etymotic flanges.

I picked up a set of 5 pairs of tips on eBay for about US$16.
