I am thinking of blocking off a chimney and getting the chimney breast modified to house my 44" sony RP television. The idea is that the newly plastered whole will be just big enough to wheel the TV in and sit it flush with the wall.

Good/bad idea? Anyone tried it? I think it will look really good.

Good point, maybe I would need to leave say an inch gap all the way round?

Grrrrrrrrr, wish the bloody solicitors would hurry up and get me the keys for my new house so i can check out the posability of the above idea. Maybe my JM Labs Sib (from sib/cub) would look a little odd sticking out from the wall with the TVbeing set back flush? Or maybe I could plaster a cut out for it and have it hung up side down above the TV? Hmmm maybe I am getting carried away LOL.

I would do that, but my chimney isn't big enough to house my 51"!

Mine sits in front of the fireplace (not operational!) on the grate, which is extended to the front of the TV. The TV is as wide as my chimney breast!

It used to be said that the fireplace was the focal point of the living room, but these days it tends to be the TV.

You seem to have combined both!
