Has anyone used the Denon 1400 universal player? It's had some favourable reviews, (superfi summarize them briefly)

At around £325 it's pricier that the pioneer 565a by >£100. I wonder how it compares

I've been thinking of mainly using it via its optical output for cd playback, so effectively, it would act like a cd transport.

Is it correct to assume the Denon would be superior music-wise to the P565 or 656, because Denon are known for their "audiophile" gear.

Or are most dvd transports likely to be similiar around the £200-300 mark?

    cheers

Edit: Oops! This was meant to be the Denon DVD-1400. Corrected now. Mod could you change the subject title to Denon.

    Try and get a pioneer DV-717 / DV-737
old models, excellent transports, probably being sold very cheap by now.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm looking for a solid universal player that can do dvd-a/sacd/dvd-r etc. So I guess it would have to be something relatively new. Progressive scan isn't important though.

Unless I'm wrong, the p737 doesn't play dvd-a or sacd, and not sure about dvd-r either. It's a big box too! But I can see why its been rec'd otherwise for its rock solid transport.
