I saw a pv500 and some 37" LG lcd running HD at the weekend i did'nt leave the shop for ages, they had to get the mop to clean all the drool off the floor. :D

I've never seen anything like that ever, i'll be getting the new HD series 8 panel from panasonic when it comes out. Xbox 360 in 720p wow.

I also saw the 37" HD demo in the shop, very impressive.

I also have HD demo's running through my 42" PV500 through the VGA input - again, very impressive, even 2 feet away.

It is a different ball game, however decent DVD and Scaler can get very good results, I stopped buying DVDs after getting my D-Theater player, then got after seeing a Crystalio and SDI modded Philips 963 I bought them and have been enjoying DVD again, in fact I stopped buying D-Theater tapes.

Hi-def is a major advance, but you have to bear in mind that the demo material is just that.

If I showed you Panasonic's new Viera DVD demo and said 'this is standard definition, the same quality as Sky' I wouldn't exactly be telling the truth....

Whilst in Bangkok earlier this year I saw HDTV running on every plasma and LCD they had in the shop - and believe you me they had a lot
The quality was stunning. I could not tell you whether it was 1080 or 720 (bit of a language problem :rotfl: ) however the one that shone was a 37" Toshiba LCD (cannot remember the model) the picture was just awsome.
I admit that it was all demo stuff, which invariably shows it off to its best but if Sky produces everyday images half as good you will still be blown away.
The one surprise was the Pioneer pdp434 - it looked a bit washed out, but then maybe the picture settings needed a tweak.
I have seen the Sagem setup which is doing the rounds of Currys, Comet etc over here - but it is on a DLP projector which IMO can never do a tv picture justice. But it is worth a look just to give you an idea of what it is like.

I've got several clients who have Euro1080i, and one who has JVC D-theatre like Gizlaroc. Both are noticeably better than SDTV, though as Giz says, the difference with a scaler is not as huge as all that. Looking through the glass doors at Chucklevision scaled to native res on a PHD7 now, it's very very good. With no scaler, the difference is immediately obvious, less clear when you include a good one.

Musical Images in Edgware have the HD Pioneers (and possibly Panasonic - not sure) showing HDTV from the European satellite. Pretty yummy.

The television department in Harrods is worth checking out. They have some pretty amazing things in there - 65" plasma screens, etc. Some of them are definitely on a hi-def feed.
