I'm doing some research on behalf of my Sister. She is looking to buy a tablet PC and I was wondering if anyone here could reccomend brands/models. She has been looking at brands like IBM, Toshiba and HP and seen some mixed feedback on them. I'm not really knowledgeable on tablet PC's. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Moogle

I've got a Toshiba Tecra M7 with 2GB RAM, which I bought about a year ago:
    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Tosh..._Warranty_BUN-PTM71E-0DV00GEN-402/version.asp

It's a very good and capable machine with a very bright and responsive screen. The screen can be positioned like a laptop computer or twisted and laid flat like a traditional tablet PC. You wouldn't believe how handy this is!

Can't fault the speed or the fan noise (very quiet) either.

The only thing that niggles me is that you have to use the stylus (which tucks away into the side of the Tecra when not in use) for the touch screen operations. But that is my own fault for not researching into tablet PCs more thoroughly and it is only a very minor negative point.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. :smashin:

    Cheers
    Moosh

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at that model. I know toshiba is a pretty good brand when it comes to portable computers.

Anyone else have any ideas ? :lease:

    Hi,

I recently bought an HP Pavilion TX1340 for my wife. It's about £650 depending on store. Briefly, the spec is as follows:
    Vista Premium 32bit
    2048MB ram
    120GB
    AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58
    Wireless Pre-N built in
    12.1" Touchscreen
    DVD writer with lightscribe
    Builtin webcam and bluetooth
    fingerprint recognition
    Altec lansing speakers
    Remote control included

It's seems very good so far, the only downsides are:
    No built in tv tuner
A little slow when using intensive programs
The screen can be difficult to see, due to glare - this is as a result of the touch screen ability - the screen covering produces the glare.Battery life can be poor, but they do come with 2 batteries of different sizes.

The high street store PCWXXXD stocks these, so you can easily take a look at it in person. It's worth consideration.

    Hope this helps,
    UKCamaroSS
