    Hi

I am thinking of getting a reasonable LCD to use with my xbox as I am now sans projector. However, I am concerned about game speed as it plays way faster on a PJ than a normal CRT. Likewise, a progressive 100hz TV allowed the game to play much faster :lesson:

Going back to RGB on a normal 50hz TV is like playing in treacle....

So, anyone using an LCD? I have a modded x-box with a hi-def kit....

    Cheers,

    Pete.

I'm assuming that to get this game running on 50hz, the developers have slowed the pace of the game down, rather than chose to drop frames. As such it has nothing to do with what type of display you're playing it on - so long as you have your Xbox set to NTSC mode you'll get the better speed.

And yes - I have a modded Xbox and Hi-Def kit on my LCD TV and play everything at 60hz speed.

Hang on though. With the mod, I choose 480p, which I assume is 60hz by its very nature as is ntsc....

There is no option to set my machine to 60hz when using the mod.

    Could you clear this up.?

    Thanks,

    Pete.

That's right. That's because *everything* in America is 60hz - hence, there's no option.

So really if I go back to RGB scart then I disable the mod and set it to 60hz as my recent test on a 50hz TV with a standard RGB cable left me gutted at the speed, especially after playing on my PJ for quite some time. (mod not disabled on test at folks house)

Alternatively, I can get a nice LCD, which I assume is progressive and use that as a treat to myself?

Thanks for your help. LCD is a minefield for me as never really ever researched it.

    Pete.

I'm not sure - some PAL Xbox games force the video output to 50hz even if you have PAL-60 turned on in the Dashboard. My advice is to use the Videomode Switcher and set the Xbox into NTSC mode - just leave it like that and even on your CRT (or any device for that matter), everything should run in full 60hz speed.

But yes, if you get an LCD, you'll be able to play in Progressive scan which will give you the 60hz speed AND crisper graphics. (A CRT would allow you to do that as well, but the choice of CRT screens that accept Progressive signals in Europe is very limited. That should hopefully change with the launch of HDTV).

I've also got a modded xbox and hi def kit, and Pro Evo 4 plays fine on my Hitachi 32LD7200. I don't play the game often, but some hardened regulars were round the other night and didn't complain!
