am thinking about getting the 20" imac,
currently selling around the 900 mark,

i have used my sister imac in the past and it seems alright,
but if i do take the jump to a imac it will mean getting rid of my monitor and one of my powermac,

another thing is the power of the processor how it will compare to a 2.7 G5,
the 20" imac i will go for is either the
    2.4 intel core 2 duo
    320gb hard drive
    4gb ram
and wireless mouse and keyboard kit
    total
    £972.00
(not sure how much i will save yet with student discount)
    or
    2.66 intel core 2 duo
    500gb hard drive
    2gb ram
and standard mouse and keyboard kit
    total
    £959.00

am not sure if the difference of 0.26 will make a big improvement on speed,

am free this weekend so will go down to the shops then,
so thought i'd put this thread up incase someone no of any horror stories with a imac or reason why i should stick with my powermac for the meanwhile...

I have bought loads of stuff from the refurb store now (Macbooks, iMac, various iPods).

They are indistinguishable from the retail items - in fact, I'm not even convinced half of the stuff on there is actually refurbished.

They come with the same warranty and same entitlement to Applecare. The only thing that differs is that they tend to come in plain white boxes instead of the full colour 'retail' boxes.

They hold their value pretty well apart from when a new model is just around the corner. Don't think there are any plans to replace it at the moment so you should be fine.

Can't see you going back to the G5 to be honest. Unless you were using RAID or had a super fast video card, the new machine will be much faster.

Make sure you upgrade to 'universal' versions of any apps you have though otherwise you won't see the benefit.

Thought i'd update and say thanks for the help,
but i didnt go for either 20" imac models at the end,
instead i bought the 24" imac,
main reason i desided not to keep the 320p monitor any more,
so the bigger the screen the better,
been using the imac for a week now and so far so good...

only slight thing i dont like is the keyboard,
slightly change from the other one i had.....
