I have about 300 or so LP's and 12 " from the mid 80's to 1990. Does anyone actually own a turntable anymore ?. I'm thinking of selling these maybe on this website , but before I list them all, just wanterd to see if there would be an interest. At onetime I was going to copy all these onto MD, but I upgraded my amp which doesn't have a phono stage. I also will try and sell my old AR EB101 turntable. Any thoughts ...

I'm sure Karkus will be along soon to give you the good news...

You could always buy a separate phono stage to use with your amp. Probably depends on whether you still want to record the vinyl you have or whether you can now get it on CD or download as MP3s.

Personally I sold all my vinyl in '92 when I became a record dealer. The only vinyl I have now is my Wonder Stuff collection which I just can't part with - even though I don't have a turntable anymore! I miss the look and feel of vinyl and the posters/gatefold sleeves/lyric inserts etc. but the convenience, portability and lack of clicks and scratches means CD wins the day for me.

I still have all my Vinyl, and these are my main source. After trying various (expensive!!) CD players, and not being totally convinced with my DVD-A/SACD's, it's likely remain so for the foreseeable future.

Vinyl is actually making a minor comeback, & turntables are also selling well (for a dead medium), so you should get a reasonable price for any fairly rare, or good nick stuff you have. To save dough on replacements I would get a cheap (but good) phono stage off ebay, say a Creek for example, and copy all your faves onto CD-R before you flog em'.

An EB101!! Ahhhhh, that brings back memories....................

I would keep them in case you change your mind. It's too late once they are gone.
I still have all my vinyl, still buying whenever something turns up, but only if it's cheap. Charity shops are my usual source, 20p for a gatefold sleeve album, mint condition, sometimes I'll go up to a quid. My local charity shops used to refuse vinyl or put it straight in the skip.
Almost picked up a copy of The Darkness Permission To Land on vinyl but decided not to.
It's more a nostalgia trip with vinyl for me, my preference is DVD-A, SACD and CDs.

Nope. Messrs Hawkins said they wanted a "proper job" done on both formats. Two of my mates have the vinyl version. My poor little CD sounds splashy and harsh by comparison. :(

Dunno how does a pound each sound plus P&P ... before I move this to the classifieds tho, I'll do a complete list over the next week. I have some interesting Prince 12" singles including a 20 odd minute version of America, which I'll put onto MD first. Which means I'll be borrowing or buying a phono stage over the weekend.

Well I've still got all my LP's and would like to get a more up-to-date turntable. Indeed was playing some last night. Did once go through my albums to select those I'd consider replacing with CD - stopped when I got to 1500. I do buy replacement CD's but only for those that I wish to listen to all the time. This however, is to save the cost of a cartridge retip and for use as background music.

I have about fifty albums and 150 12" singles from the early eighties. I don't listen to them that often, but every once in a while I will go through them all, which I enjoy.
Some of the albums I only have on vinyl so if I want to listen to a particular album, it's only on vinyl so I have no choice.
I still enjoy handling vinyl :)

How can you sell your album collection?. To me it's more than just music, it's all the memory of where why when I got a piece of music. There is stuff in my LP rack I'll never listen to again, but I keep it.

Just get a phono stage, they can't be that much unless your using a Blue Pearl JEM turntable (£50,000)

my chosen profesion for the last 15 years has been that of a dj
back in the late 80s i started out using records on decks and 15 years on i still work on decks using records
even in the radio stations that i go they have decks
the majority of the promos i get are also records rather than cd

admitedly most places now have cds but personaly i still belive you will never get rid of records there is somthing 2 uniqe about them lets face it anyone can burn a cd can the same be said for a record.

even when i am not workin get a nice 12 inch record out put it on the deck
    :Dinstant happiness :D

DONT SELL YOUR RECORDS YOU WILL REGRET IT

Paul, have a look at what's moving on ebay. The Roksan decks appear quite regularly, as does the ubiquitous LP12. If those are too steep even 2nd hand, have a look at the new Rega or the Project decks.

    hi jimcarney

Hope they're OK never used them just happen to come across it looking for something else.

As for a new deck - got my sights set on an SME or Simon Yorke one.
