I cant view my DVHS thru the DVI Socket on my Sharp Ga4?

Its a component out to vga to dvi adaptor, basically like the philips lead that comes with the 9986...

    Thanks!

I'm a bit out of my depeth here but VGA is (I think) a modified RGB signal. I think you're trying to send component into an input expecting RGB. I think (again) The philips is ususual in accepting component to it's DVI input.

I think you'll have to connect it to the component input. Either that, or I'm just talking garbage, one of the two.

    Nick,

One of the guys on here connected their Denon 2910 DVD player to a Sharp through a HDMI to DVI connecter and it played fine. He presumed there must be some sort of YUV to RGB conversion behind the DVI input.

    Rich,

Isn't HDMI a digital signal, which the Sharp would not have a problem with to the DVI port?

Why would you want to do that? The Sharp has proper component connections and don't need a kludge like the Philips. Just plug it straight into the component connection. I guess the reason why it doesn't work is because the Sharp will only take the resolutions listed in the manual for the PC interface through the analogue side of the DVI connector.

    Well thanks for the info...

I bought a Gefen 4 way dvi switcher (for use with the Philips) to connect

    DVHS player (component)
    Gamecube (component)
    Panasonic S97 (hdmi to dvi)

but I thought there might be another reason as to why it wasnt working on the sharp, but it did on the Philips.

So i now have a Gefen 4 way dvi switcher for sale! Used for 10 mins yesterday Doh!

Now i have it set up this way.

DVI In - Panny S97 HDMI to DVI
Component In - DVHS (originally was gonna plug my Pioneer 656a into this)
    Scart 1 - Pioneer 656a (originally freeview)
Scart 2 - Panny E30 DVD recorder AND Freeview (loop thru)
AV4 In - Gamecube or Karaoke CD+G Player...

The only real loss in this is I bought a Gefen switcher, but the gamecube component lead i got (today funnilly enough) are now redundant...

Unless anyone knows where to get a component switcher from...?

    Thanks!
