    Hi Folks

Does anyone know where I can get one of these.

    Sony DSPEP9ES

Anyone got one they want to sell, or know of a local dealer with one sitting on the shelf??

May try Tottenham Court Road today, but i'm not hopeful.

Fanthorpes in Hull have had a secondhand one in for ages. Don't sound too keen and they'll probably come down a bit from £120. No idea if they do mail order. 01482 223096

Someone on here [email protected] (sp?) had one FS here but it got yoinked because he didn't put up a proper price (?). IIRC, £50 would have yanked it.

    HTH,
    Mike.

    Hi,

Sorry can't help directly..... I'm using my ep-9!

There is also the ep-90, which is the same thing with MPEG-2 audio on board as well as DD.

Do you actually need an ep-9 (because it has a 6 channel input/passthru) or are you just after a DD decoder. You might find DD processors from Pioneer, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo on e-bay or in the classifieds.

Try looking in the classified ads and thru the (second hand) dealers in magazines like Hi Fi World or HiFi News.

    Brian.

Thanks Flimber, I will call them later today.

bxd - after a dd decoder I can connect directly to a power amp. After reading up, the only 2 that suit my needs or are this Sony or the Technics 300/500. If I could get a 500 with DD&DTS I may go for that, but as DD is my priority the Sony certainly looks the best bet sound wise.

Jon this may be a stable-doors-after-horses-bolting kind-of thing after your eBay/Rotel snatch but if I offered you my Denon AVC-A1D for £650 would you bite ?

Sorry, was here but didn't see your reply.

You do this to me now i've gone and bought the power amp. Now i've bought it, will probably give it a go and see what it sounds like (providing I can actually get something to sort the processing side).

You could always try and pull out of the eBay deal :D :D :D

Is that a definite "No" then ? I'll prob be offering it up to the rest of the world soon if so. I don't believe there's a better 5.1 amp in existence, BTW ;) My DVDForums ad w/pictures is still up I think (?) if you want to check it out.

Have already sent cheque for the power amp, so feel free to offer for sale (thought you were gonna keep it?).

Have seen your very impressive dvd forums ad. Preferred your Pioneer E06 one though. :p

    Emailed neilj1, but it bounced.

Tried to phone the dealer in Hull at lunchtime, but no answer.

looks like i'm gonna have to cope without an amp for a week or 2.

Thanks for your help in trying to locate the Sony though, much appreciated.

Okay, no problem. Fingers crossed that you don't get that 'fatigueing' feeling with your new amp. My old Rotel power amps were hypnotic for all the wrong reasons and I know I'm not alone. I hope for your sake that they're different now.

    Mike.

EDIT: Wrote that all in an utterly non sour-grapes kind of way. Hope that's how it comes across. Hope you're damn happy with said Rotel :)

    Ta.

Just hope I can get hold of that Sony processor in time.

I have new Kef Eggs nicely placed on the walls and nothing to connect them to. Still have my Marantz til Saturday, but no speaker cable to the front 3 speakers....

Hope you sell the amp OK, until you decide to keep it again.

Will try them again later when I get a chance, not been able to get hold of them so far.

Failing that, I may have to get a Yammaha DSPE800 or a AX620 to fill in the gap. Both are fairly cheap, £225 and £200 respectively and will hold up well pricewise for the 2nd hand market.

I must admit though, the comments on my other thread about the Pionner VSAE06 have tempted to try one of those instead of the power amp/processor combo - be a couple of hundred quid cheaper.

    thanks, john

Just got a reply from Fanthorpes by email (they have been stock taking, that's why I couldn't get hold of them).

    They are asking £150 (plus £10 p&p)

At that price, i'm not too sure.

Both the Yams I mention above are just over £200 new.

At this price, the Rotel power amp and Sony decoder will total £500 (plus postage costs). The Pioneer E06 would be around £300.

    Decisions?

Hmmm...I'm sure it was £120 and I don't often misremember prices. Want me to pop over and haggle ? :D

The fella with the E06 will struggle to sell at all as it's not DTS and nor has it got 5.1 inputs. Fantastic amp though. Power amp stage every bit the equal of the Rotel. His £450 ovno is possibly double it's market worth. I hope you've told him such (!). Continued good luck anyway.

If you could that would be great. The annoying thing is they do mail order for £10, so would have been ideal. Have mailed them to ask them to drop price, but not hopeful.

It's kind of hard to act disinterested in something when you've specifically asked them if they have it.

    Thanks, John.

    Jon,

    Found you another one:

    http://www.loud-clear.co.uk/offers.htm

£100. I saw this there yonks ago and it looks like they still have it (page updated yesterday !). These boys 'aint selling 'cos they're not DTS. Again, offer 'em what you want to pay not what they want to sell for. They'll prob be glad for the shelfspace. Go on, £90 all-in and see what they say. Tell 'em you've seen it used elsewhere for £70, £75 & £85. Have shopnames handy in case they quiz you. Play the game. It's fun. Let us know how you get on.

    Cheers,
    Mike.

Bumping so I know that you've seen my last post. (Hey, if you don't acknowledge I don't know that you have !). Some other bugger might snap it up if you didn't (bl**dy lurkers).

Also, in another matter close to your heart, one of the older Nokia ondigital boxes has coax sp/dif out. I used to have one.

Nice one Mike ! .... well spotted.

The EP-9 is a pretty useful digital preamp so it's well worth it for that price. OK, it's not got DTS but you could add a stand alone dts decoder if you really had to. It's main disadvantage is the fact that it doesn't have any analog inputs (apart from the passthru obviously) but you could buy an A/D converter pretty cheaply these days if you wanted to do that.

Also, IIRC, the technogizmowhizzbang surround options (DSPs and the like) are not available for the analogue ins.

    :)

Yep... now ordered from Loud and Clear, very friendly on the phone which is always nice.

I did pay the full £100 in the end (plus delivery), just happy to be getting one so couldn't be bothered to haggle.

From the description sounds in excellent condition, but I won't get it til the middle of next week :(

Thanks for all your help Flimber, very much appreciated.

So Saturday then. Or I could do tomorrow afternoon after 2 pm. Whenever, I will be coming on the train so I'll need to know the station.
