    Hello TAGers!

I'm in the market for another DAC to replace my (frankly, rubbish) MF X-ACT and have decided that the DAC20 would be perfect for my requirements. Problem is, I can't find the damn things anywhere! There is no list of authorised dealers on the TAG website, nor have I been able to locate one on the internet or eBay, new or 2nd hand.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Cheers,
    DT

The only other place I can suggest is www.ex-dem.co.uk where there appears to be one listed in combination with an Audiolab CDM.

The only other route will be to keep looking on ebay, and also via ex-dem and audiophilecandy,on a routine basis until you strike lucky!

I've got one I'd be willing to let go for £450 inc p+p. Let me know if interested.

Liam,if you're going to sell the DAC20,please follow the forum rules, and use the classifieds pages.

    Thanks for your help, guys.

TAG have told me that the DAC20 is no longer being made and all units have been sold on, so the 2nd hand market is my only real option.

Blue-eyes, the one in germany is about £550, not including shipping & duties etc. which is far more than I'm willing to pay.

There are a couple on ex-dem, but they may be sold, so I'll have to investigate. Liamjf, I'll PM you about yours.

Do you think its worth putting a WTB in the classifieds section, Alexs2?

i think putting a WTB in the classifieds is a good idea BUT the pm to Liamjf is against the rules.

I would suggest Liamjf puts the Dac20 for sale and you respond on the forum that you are willing to pay the said price

Sorry AMCross, I haven't done a deal on AVforums before and haven't read the forum rules either (naughty!). Please forgive me!

Exactly as I suggested....as both of you are new,and if you follow the rules, which are clearly set out in the appropriate section,I'm sure things will be ok...just keep it in the correct section, and in public until sale is completed.

    Thanks "LostinUK"

I've contacted that seller but was unable to broker a deal. His asking price was too high.

Flippin' Hec, this baby weighs more than my power amp!! What a beautifully-built piece of equipment!

Haven't really been able to test it properly yet but initial results were promising. Bass extension & definition has been the biggest improvement so far.

Hopefully i won't be accused of thread necrophilia with this post:

Anybody have any infor regarding availibility of these units? Are they still are worthy option?

I haven't seen any on ebay or on the classified here for a long time.

    Thanks

"Thread necrophiia"? Haven't heard that before. Is it illiegal ;) ?

A lot of folks on this forum, like myself, use a DAC20, with excellent results. I certainly isn't out of its depth in the company of other equivalently-priced DAC's, and is still one of the most flexible around (no balanced output though :( ). The best thing about this DAC (imho), is it's lack of glaring faults. There is no particular area of it's performance that one could criticise outright - it produces a very well-balanced sound.

As for alternatives at the price (They seem to go for around £300-£400 these days), the only one I can think of, is the MF A3.24. That only two spdif inputs though.

Other worthwhile DACs in the price-bracket above would be the Tag DPA32r, MF Tri-vista (personal fave) & Benchmark DAC1. You'll need £750+ to join that club though.

At the other end, non-oversampling DACs are proving quite popular these days. I haven't heard one, but they're cheap enough to risk buying blind.

    Rgds,

I sold my DAC20 on eBay (got £450 which seems to be going rate); and upgraded to the DPA32R (and also to a AV32R DP!!), if you get the chance, the DPA is a far superior option IMHO, as the both the DAC and pre-amp sections are superior to either the DAC20 or PA20R, with the flexibilty of the add on DAB tuner and ADC!

    It looks a treat too!
