I'm talking about the new TV show "Hannibal", a comment on amazon.uk.com made me wonder if it has been cut. Don't know how they would know because the UK and US release dates are 2 September and 21 September.

    Thanks for looking !

To answer my own post, the Blu-Ray is an 18 certificate release so I'd be surprised if the cuts are extensive.

It only talks about the episodes being cut for US transmission, not about anything being cut in the UK. He's just moaning about bonus features being dropped, which I don't really care about, seeing as I got the UK blu for £14.

Ignore what he posts, it's always drivel ;)

    I believe it was this ridiculous review: Amazon.co.uk: PoochJD's review of Hannibal - Season 1 [Blu-ray] [2013]

He was wrong, apart from episode 4 which was pulled in its entirety (supposedly at the request of creator Bryan Fuller due to Boston bombing sensitivity) with cut webisodes made available

Sort of linked to this but I have the film version and I'm sure the scene where Hannibal cuts open the blokes head at the end was cut slightly on dvd release. Was this just me or did it seem shorter than when it was at the cinema? It has bugged me for years.

^^ seemed the same to me on DVD and I watched it twice at the cinema ... I presume you're referring to Ray Liotta's character

Btw you know (apologies, I'm sure you do) this new series isn't a TV remake of the Hannibal novel or film but really a prequel to Harris' first Lecter novel Red Dragon (adapted as Manhunter and the inferior remake Red Dragon)

The series is a mishmash of red dragon the novel and interminable samey stories every week, pretty weak stuff sadly.

Yes was well aware that the series wasn't related as such but as it was a newer thread thought I would have a better response if I asked on here, cheeky I know.:D

Yes was talking about Liotta's character, just had a brain freeze and couldn't remember his name for some reason. I'm sure when it was at the cinema the camera lingered for a longer amount of time on his exposed brain and when he started cutting off his skull and chopping bits of brain out. Always bugged me as I couldn't find anything online about it.:(

I could never sit through that scene unless I held fingers over my eyes so I wouldn't like it to be shown more lingeringly than it originally was.

I sometimes think of that scene when using a tiny wooden spoon with a frying pan

I'm jealous at the low prices for the Blu-ray, I got mine last week for £24.99... and it better not be cut!

I wanted to like it, but it was just too silly and repetitive for me and I gave up after episode 8. It also has that glossy network television look rather than a realistic cable look. The characters, especially the women, always look at their best, like they've just stepped out of an expensive hairdressers, rather than what characters in tough jobs do look like.

The plan is that the first three seasons are the prequel, with season 4 they are starting three seasons of adaptation of the novels Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal and then season 7 has an original story line which will wrap everything up.

Well, I loved it. The way Lecter manipulates everyone throughout the season was wonderful. The finale was jaw-droppingly good.

As for the scene in the film Hannibal with Ray Liotta's character having parts of his brain removed and sauteed, yes, it was cut for DVD. If you watch the bonus features there's a making-of documentary. Watch the sequence filmed at the premiere where the audience reacts to the dinner scene and you will see that the theatrical cut is ever-so-slightly longer.
