Bought the Puppets II album, love it, got to buy at least one more.
You can't really go wrong with Live in Montana.
Shouldn't this be in the adult section
I shall bear that in mind.......probably have to order it, HMV did have the album I bought..very unusual
I haven't listened to anything of theirs.
Similar to 'Eyes adrift'?
If they are, which album should I go for: Puppets II?
I prefer a studio album.
Similar to eyes adrift, but the style is more grungy, has the three tracks Nirvana covered on their unplugged album.:lake of fire, oh,me and plateau. The whole thing is slightly more gritty than Eyes, but thats no bad thing, the album everybody recommends is Up on the Sun, be buying that next.
Try Calexico as well, the new albums in a similar style and very polished.
had to bump this one up...........been listening to the Meat puppets ii for a couple of days and have not got sick of it, the instrumental outro on the end of the track Plateau must be one of the most uplifting pieces I have heard. This band have influenced a lot of groups, from Nirvana, to The White Stripes. They are almost like listening to a pub band, drummer and bass player keep it all moving, guitar can be very sporadic and his voice is out of tune and warbly, but it works.
Free Bump- after contstant pushing from karkus in a PM campaign, I bought some of these guys- quite liking it, haven't given it my full attention yet but will do and come back with a fuller report but so far-
I now own the first puppets allbum and the later 'Up on the Sun'.
Both are great, but UOTS is more accesable, one long jamming session with guitar interplay that would make the Stone Roses very happy.
|The first album 'The Meat Puppets' is pure punk and would frighten Johnny Rotten if you ever wondered where the death metal screams started, then this is as good a place as any to point a finger.
Meat Puppets II is still my favourite with a simple and eclectic mix of styles, that doesnt pretend to be something clever, never bores or leaves you disillusioned and makes you feel happy everytime you play it.
UOTS is definitely the most accomplished and polished, but loses a bit of that simple innocence of pupsII.
I like em all, each album is totaly different from the next. Vive la difference, the Pups rock big time.
I have two Meat Puppets albums:
No Joke & Too High To Die.
I really like them both, I will have to try and get hold of Meat Puppets II!!!
Splendid band indeed.
My fave album is 'Huevos' - there is an absolutely mighty track on it called 'Sexy Music' - guaranteed to make grown men cry.
Saw them in London in 1992 - excellent gig.
