    Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but its a technical question, not a discussion about the (admittedly, very good) album.

The Crystal Method recently released a DVDA/DTS-ES album and I've had difficulty getting it to work.

    It has the following soundtracks:

    DTS-ES (24/48 multi-channel)
    DVD-A (24/48 multi-channel)
2.0 PCM (16/48 - although this appears as 24/48 in the OSD)

DVD-A & PCM soundtracks are not working. This is the only DVD-A I own that behaves like this. All the others play multi-channel & stereo DVD-A perfectly. I have a feeling the problem might be my config.

My system is 2-channel. The 565 has the following options set:

Digital out - ON (Co-ax into my DAC for CD playback)
    DD > PCM
    DTS > PCM
    Downsample - OFF
    Mpeg > PCM

(I've tried playing around with these settings, to no avail)

Only the L & R multi-channel outs are connected to the pre amp.

Why won't PCM & DVD-A soundtracks work? Anyone got any ideas? You may argue that the DTS-ES soundtrack is good enough, being 24/48, but its still a "lossy" format compared to MLP DVD-A, isn't it?

    Totally confused  ,

    DT,
You'll need analogue outs not digital to get the MLP tracks out. The digital feed you have is only allowed to pass DD and DTS digitally. I got legion of Boom this week and, at least on my copy, all stated formats appear to work. The MLP is better than the DTS versions although when you're mixing and matching DACs in the various bits of your kit you may hear it differently.

    Hope that helps

    Nick

    The analog outs are connected:

"Only the L & R multi-channel outs are connected to the pre amp."

Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear enough.

Try connecting the 2 channel audio outputs which are next to the multi channel outputs. As you only have a 2 channel system there is no point in connecting the multi channel outputs at all. Using the 2 channel outputs means that even when listening to multi channel audio the player will downsample the audio to 2 channel.

Sorry, didn't read carefully enough. I wonder if your digital ON setting does blank the analogue o/p. Also, if you switch downsampling ON, will that allow o/p on the digital?
I can see anything that is immediately odd about how the disc is authored.

Thanks Nick, I'll give those settings a try.

Another bizarre thing; whilst playing the flaming lips yoshimi dvda, I noticed that I was getting 24/96 through s/pdif!! I thought that wasn't possible? Even stranger, my DAC20 was able to process the pcm stream, even though it can only handle 48khz max!

This is, of course, based on what the 565 display is telling me. It could be wrong :)

Crusty, I haven't connected my standard L/R outs because I have never needed to use them before. I use an offboard dac via s/pdif. Every other dvda/sacd/redbook I have runs perfectly from the L/R multi-outs. I will give it a try though.

Have you fixed this problem yet? I have no problem with PCM or DTS but cannot access the DVD-A 5.1 channel mix. My multi-player simply doesn't acknowledge that more than two formats are present. Do you have any suggestions yet?

No, my Pio 565 still refuses to read the dvda & pcm tracks.

My 2900 does though, so I'm a happy bunny!
