I've just cancelled my pre-order at £349.99 and collected one from ********** this morning for £399.95 as Amazon quoted 31st Jan for delivery (this date has changed three times so far) so there's no guarantee I would even get it for beginning of Feb.

I got fed up of Amazon changing the delivery date. For whatever reason, it doesn't look like they are getting the first batch of players, with preference given to Tosh online and hi-fi shops.

Amazon aren't an authorised dealer of Toshiba products so would never have had a look in regarding the initial batch of stock. Not that being an authorised dealer means much to the company anyway.......This is the company after all that decided to sell HD-E1's exclusively (at full RRP) from their own website prior to Xmas which meant a lot of official dealers had customers cancelling orders.

I ordered my E1 & XE-1 from Amazon in mid October for £350 & £505 respectively. My plan was to take whichever shipped first and cancel the other. Bargain I thought, plenty of time til Christmas... yeah, right!

Stock or no stock I think Amazon realised they goofed their initial pricing back in October and are quite happy to sit on the fence whilst people cancel their orders and buy elsewhere

I will be going to my local Comet tomorrow and if they'll price match with Dixons online, I'll be buying an E1 and cancelling my Amazon order. Just what they want me to do, I suspect...

Don't think they will price match Dixons. Unless it's a matter of urgency and you have a stock pile of HD DVDs to watch, I'd suggest you wait a little longer for the XE1. It's painful I know but there aint a great selection of appealing titles at present, so it's worth the wait imo.

Since they are not authorised Tosh dealers, does anyone know where Amazon will source their Toshiba HD DVD players from?

Yeah I know you're right but I'm getting impatient :D. I have half a dozen Tier-1 movies just sitting there staring at me and Christmas 'presents' to spend :smashin: .

I reserved one at comet online today and will visit the store tomorrow. If they will go the 'right' side of £400, I'll go for it. According to a few on this thread: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=443499&page=4, some Comet stores have price matched Dixons and others have not. Fingers crossed!

If they won't, I'll stick with my Amazon order

Ended up getting mine at HiWay as Comet New Malden wouldn't price match them either!
£379 including free HDMI cable (it'll do til I get a decent one).
    Comet just lost another sale!!

First impressions are great. PQ & SQ is excellent for both HD DVD's and SD DVD's.

I'm in the same boat! Got lots of HD DVDs but no player.

Lets see, the player has been out for about three weeks and Amazon are just shipping them now.

The XE1 comes out end of Jan, so end of Feb... maybe?

I couldn't stand the pressure (too many discs and no player) and bought an E1 from Toshiba just before Christmas. :D

I still want my EX1 though.

Virgin and HMV sell them in the larger shops.

Metro Centre store has quite a good range of HD-DVD's considering they have only just come out. Prices range from £17.99 to £24.99 so they are expensive compared to internet but if you need a few discs to try out the player you should have plenty to choose from.
