If you are using a normal CRT TV then this could just be interlace problems causing moire patterning.

I have the R1 disk and the tiles on the roof are rock solid, but I am using progressive scan into a plasma display.

I agree - Have the R1 version. Prog Scan on Tosh 32ZD26P is spot on. Interlaced has the effects you are talking about.

Same for me. R1 NTSC Prog Scan is spot on, interlaced has shimmering.

Unfortunately this is one of the situations that causes many DVD companies to produce softer, filtered transfers. When a transfer is as detailed and sharp as Red Dragon, the additional detail cannot be resolved by an interlaced display so it does cause problems for a great number of people.

If you have a progressive display then you bemoan a softer, filtered picture, especially when compared with a picture like that of Red Dragon with all the high frequency detail intact.
