    http://www.avland.co.uk/denon/avr3805/avr-3805.htm

Am looking for an amp that does music and films to a good level. What hifi gave it 5 stars and reckoned it is just about unbeatable at the price (1000), but I've already seen it for 850 (above link). What do you think? It looks nicer than the Sony/Yamaha/Pionners of this world. I also rate Denon stuff very highly: I've got an old df10 micro system that I have thrashed to death every day for the last 10 years.

    Any opinions welcome.

Just need to add a word about the remote: It's a learning remote than can control anything and lights up when you pick it up :smashin:

    looks great value for money

Might be worth waiting for the new Denon players with Denon Link 3rd edition if you are going to buy that amp.

The remote is not a selling point! You can't read it in bright light, the buttons are too small and they seem to be dropping like flies. Denon UK have five on order and no due date. Far too flash for its own good.

Oh and my 3805 went belly up ;-)!

Despite all that, I was very impressed with it.

What did you have before the 3805?

Nothing special, a Pioneer Stereo amp with some dual concentric Tannoy speakers from the steam age (1995ish) and a Marantz CD player. Music was polished, but the 3805 did a good job in comparison.

Why not the new cheaper Denon 2805?

Partner it with a Denon DVD1400 or DVD2200!

I must be the only one who loves the remote - have no problems reading it, programming to control all my sources was straighforward, and the system call function to string together a series of commands in one big macro is great. I've got it turning on the plasma, turning on the DVD, setting the amp to the right source and finally dimming the lights...

    It looks unbelievablly flash.

Oh yeah the amp is awesome as well....

'Dimming the lights', is the clue. Try using it in a sunlit room.

I must have the only setup where the Plasma has enough contrast for the daytime, but the remote control doesn't

Ooops wasn't clear - the dimming the lights is for posing while watching movies with friends round - day to day stuff with curtains open/lights on is just fine - I wonder if theres some variation between remotes? I'm only posting my opinion as I wouldn't want someone thinking about a 3805 to be put off without trying the remote....

I agree 100% try it and see. I'll probably live with it or buy an all in one, but it might suit some. It's bordering on fantastic, but for me it's crap - so far.

If I stick with the 3805 I'll be getting a replacement remote and I'll post and let you know if the new one is any brighter.
