I'm eyeing up an RX-V1400 and was wondering if you can turn the display off.
The instructions say you can dim it but don't mention if you can turn it off.

    Anyone know?

I don't think I need the 2400 as I'll be using power amps for the front 3 channels so don't need the extra power and there doesn't seem to be any other significant difference.

I am annoyed that you can't get these in black in the UK, I'm almost tempted to settle for a 750SE so I can have a black one!

er..so you can't actually turn it off?
    Just very dim?

I find I get distracted by any light sources away from the screen.

    Great, thanks.

I can check when I do a demo but forewarned is forearmed as they say.

Not sure if this would be a further issue or not, but to get to the dimmer section on the menu is quite fiddly and there are no shortcuts to dim the display or auto dim except on direct stereo.

Oh stuff it. I've ordered a Denon 3805 - black, dimmable from the remote and I read that the Yamahas have problems with DTS from the Denon player I have.

    Oh.
Well, someone on here mentioned it, I'll try and find it and post a link.

Edit: It was Carlos in a post comparing the 2400 to the 3805. I would have posted the link but my PC crashed.
Oh well, I suppose he could have just been unlucky, or you're lucky!

I have a quick question on the 1400 as I am thinking of buying one. I currently have an old Sony TAV8ES amp running a 5.1 speaker setup. I will have to stick with that speaker setup until I move house when I would go for a full 7.1 speaker setup. Any problems running the amp with a 5.1 setup only for now ?

    Cheers.

Fair enough, you could get a 1500 from germany for about that much but thats if you could find one ect.. and i don't think there is much difference between the 1500 and 1400 (where as the 2500 has 3 component inputs compaired to the 2400's 2 so there would be a difference there)
