Anyone go from a dedicated pre pro like Anthem to an Onkyo 875?

Am thinking of moving from a dedicated pre pro to using the Onkyo 805 or 875 as a pre pro and am looking for some people to chime in on what their experiences have been. Is this a worthwhile move? I would love the new Integra pre pro but its not in the cards right now.

    Thanks.

I don't know anything about the 'Anthem' but I found the change from my Rotel RSP 1068 to the Onkyo 805 to be an upgrade. Not just HD audio but in the whole surround experience, even music sounds better to me.

In fairness it may be that the Onkyo sound is just better suited to the rest of my kit than the Rotel was but I am very happy with the change.

I think the 805 represents the best value for money as a Pre/Pro as it has most of the features you need unless the Reon is a big thing for you. Looking back I may have been better off with the 875, a few little things might have made my life easier but to get everything I wanted would mean going up to the 905 and as Pre/Pro that seems total overkill.

Your equipment list didn't indicate which Anthem you have. If it's a Statement D2 + P5 for example, then the Onkyo is such a huge step down, that I would doubt your sanity :suicide: :)

No D2. I run an Emotiva, which is a Sunfire clone and the equivalent of the Anthem AVM20 / 30.

I don't know the Emotiva, but the AVM30 is in a different league from the Onkyo, even though it isn't a D2. You didn't say why you wanted to downgrade.

As I understand it, the processing found in the 805 / 875 / 905 is the same as found in the new Integra 9.8 pre pro and everything I have read so far strongly suggests that the 9.8 is quite an upgrade to the likes of older gen pre pros such as the Anthem AVM20 / 30 etc.

I am looking to simplify my system by using HDMI connections and hoping to correct my room somewhat by utilizing Audessey.

This change would strictly be used for movie performance only as my 2 channel listening rig is to my ears terrific.
