On a lot of movies Ive watched in HD, I tend to get littles split second sound skips, like when a DVD switches layers, But this seems to be happening between 3 or 4 times in a movie, anything upto once every ten minutes. Anyone else have this, or any advice.

    Cheers.

Is not this issue also with Sky+ and regular Sky owners and not just related to HD?

Its something that just happens and i dont let it bother me that much to be honest.

There are other issues far more important Sky need to sort out... :rotfl:

I defragmented the disk on my Sky+ and that improved it a lot.

Yeah should have said its a minor irritant and by no means a reason not to get SKY HD.

So what are we calling a skip? I get cut offs of around 5 seconds. Does anyone else get 5 second cut offs?

$ky are charging a premium for a defective product and everyone here seems to just lay back and accept it.

I get split second losses of sound when watching HD football.
    Maybe 5 or 6 times a match.
Not on anything else though, weirdly enough.

I think these two types of issues have to be indentified differently.

A skip i wold classify not lasting more than a second, in this instance due to the technology (satellite dish) and the method i recieve my Tv i can accept these minor skips.

A long pause/freeze is very different and these can last much longer, sometime i have had a pause of sound for over 20 seconds and i dont have to explain how very very annoying these are!
Satellite or no satellite there is no excuse when you miss out a very important bit of dialect on that all important movie or documentary.

However if these issues are related to transmission from satellite to dish then i really dont see those issues ever going due to the huge environmental issues the transmission from the satellite to dish has to go through from space/atmosphere/clouds/weather etc.

In that case the only way round that would be advances in technology that can maintain a perfect signal from any new satellite going up into our atmosphere beaming down to our dishes (this is very unlikely though as i tend to think mother nature will always win!). :D

Can’t accept that explanation. Signals are beamed around the world all the time with no problems. More likely is that the skybox can’t always process the complex DD signal quick enough so misses sections of it out.

Read the thread "Sky Dolby Digital Problem ". If its ok via the TV sound and not via the receiver then its a SKY transmission issue that I and a number of others suffer with. I watch movies through my TV and its ok. Play it via my surround sound amp and the Dolby drops every so often for 4 or 5 secs.Never used to happen until some new type of feed was introduced months and months ago. Sky are "said" to be working on a fix but I seriously don't think they care that much:(

Went over my mate's house last night and he played back a recording from the discovery channel HD and the sound just vanished for 5-10 seconds three or four times during the 5 min segment I saw. I couldn't have coped with that - it was really bad.

I don't usually watch that channel so couldn't compare directly but I've only had the odd less than a second sound glitch (and, to be fair, not very often) on the channels I watch.

So how do we go about bugging Sky again about getting the massive drop outs with DD5.1 fixed? Im sure if enough people push enough they may get the idea etc... ;)
