    Hi,

I've made a bit of a cock up!
I was watching a couple of Av receivers on eBay ending around the same time for pick up only both based down south.
I emailed both sellers asking if courier collection ws and option, 1 replied saying yes, I bid on and won the wrong auction!

He's now saying that courier collection is ok, but only after 6.30pm

I'm wondering if anybody would be willing to help me out?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Dave

Sorry I'm not from Ickenham so cannot help but it isn't clear what you want someone to help you with, maybe thats why you have no replies. Do you want someone to collect something on your behalf?

I should have been clearer really. I was hoping somebody could collect it for me and courier it to me. Too cheeky? :)

    Also, probably can't help but

    Ickenham to Where?

    or Where to Ickenham

i.e. not clear whether it is the seller or you in Ickenham. And you don't say where the other end of the route is.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Get the seller to sort out an invoice for you including postage and packing. Then they can arrange the delivery.

If you're asking for someone to burn their own fuel as a favour from one forum member to another then I wish you good luck.

    Thanks Nigel,
I'm in Warrington,Cheshire. The receiver is in Ickenham. The seller has stated he's only available after 6.30pm and that the unit is too heavy to cart around on public transport to post. It's my own fault really for not double checking I was bidding on the right item, again thanks to everybody for your replies.

He's a lazy git - I've just delivered an AV amp 260 miles by public transport :D

The last time I arranged a courier collection it was after 7pm when the courier turned up (FedEx) so you may be able to specify a late collection with some of them?

I would go and collect normally but it's 187 miles away :(
It wouldn't be worth my while.
Never mind, back to the drawing board!

I've done it before. Sold an amp on ebay to a chap in Manchester. Just lugged it with me on the train and it wasn't that much hassle. 2hrs and a bit and you're there. I'd much prefer to do that way than risk it with a courier. Now I'm just trying to rack my brain here as to where Ickenham is. My guess is it's somewhere just outside London. In Bucks right?

I do, quite regularly. But I'm not going back for a few weeks. I suppose I could do it if you bought me the train ticket. :D

Search the forums (and pay particular attention to the classifieds listings where inputting location information is compulsory) for any users in/near Ickenham; see if you might trust 'em; PM 'em; cross digits.

FWIW, I've done this - via members on here - and both times worked out fine.

    Mike.

EDIT: Found five or six straight away. Not sure I'd trust all of 'em mind :)

I was about to reply saying that :D
I'm desperate to get into the home cinema scene but don't have a great deal of spare cash at the moment, so I was hoping to find a faulty amp to repair to start me off:smashin:

    Thanks Mike!
I was thinking about going down that route but wasn't sure if the rules would have allowed me to do so.
Thanks for clarifying, this forum is the best! :D

If it's too much hassle why not contact the seller, explain the situation and ask if you can withdraw from the sale?

Yes, just tell the seller of your mistake and that unfortunately you can't continue.

You may well find that he miraculously discovers a way to get it to the courier.

What did the listing say - was it collection only?

Or ask him to use Collect+. This uses the distribution chain of convenience stores. The seller drops it at his local Spar (or whatever) and is either delivered direct to the customer or to his nearest convenience store. You can do 10kg for £3.49 for store to store (only £50 cover on that one though so will have to pay extra for additional cover).

I've used it a couple of times and it has worked well, though I'm sure, like all couriers you can find horror stories so do a bit of research first.

The reason I suggest this is that most people have a Collect+ store practically on their doorstep so he should be able to get to that.

Just put Ickenham into the Collect+ store search and there are 19 stores in the immediate area.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Collect+ worked well for me the only time I've used it. It was returning an item to Amazon last month, and if Amazon use it I guess that gives it good credentials. It's a good scheme; sounds ideal for you.

    ==== EDIT ====
By its nature it's not high-speed, so allow an extra day or two for collection/delivery.

    Thanks Nigel!
Ideally I wouldn't want to cancel the transaction, but it may look like I'll have to.
I'll get in touch with the seller and see if he could possibly go down that route.
It did say on the listing "collect in person only" on 2 listings. I contacted both sellers asking if courier collection was an option, one got back to me advising that it would be ok to do but stupidly I bid on and won the other auction.
Luckily he does understand. I was hoping there would be somebody here that didn't live too far away that could have collected it for me and dropped off at a collect+ store, but in hind sight I think I'm asking too much off a stranger!

Thanks again for getting back to me guys, much appreciated!
    Best regards
    Dave

Thanks, that's very reassuring! I'll get in touch with the seller now and see if that's an option he's willing to do.

I don't understand why the seller can't drop it off at a Collect+ store - if he wants to sell it.

He may not have a car, but his nearest point may be within walking distance - mine is. Or he may be able to ask a friend or neighbour just to pop him down - it's only going to be a mile or two.

There could another reason behind this - perhaps he doesn't have the box or a suitable alternative.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I've just messages him, so I'll see what kind of response I'm met with.
With regards to a box, I did think that, but with him saying courier collection on a Saturday or after 6.30 would t be a problem I assume he's sorted.

I've just heard back from him.

He's not willing to use collect+ due to the distance involved/lack of time.
He is however, willing to accept a courier collection, but again, only the time and days specified, which leaves me in the same dilemma :(
He has also stated he's willing to cancel and relist but I'm not too keen on that option as I really would like to complete this.

I'll continue trawling the classifieds in the hope that some kind soul is willing to help :)

Thanks again to everybody taking their time to read and reply to this.
