Hi - just a newbie looking for some advice. We currently have a Sony DVP-S725D DVD player (bought it in 2000). Unfortunately it has sustained water damage and is currently in being checked out to see the extent of the damage and whether it is worth repairing. Odds are high that it won't be - and will be covered by insurance. We have a full-replacement policy so it will be replaced by the current equivalent.

Is anyone familiar enough with Sony equipment to know which model these days would be of the same 'level' as ours? (We're not big on DVD technology, so please work any replies at a really basic level.) :)

    Thanks in advance.

Excuse the typo - I meant word, not work, in that bit in brackets.

The closest replacement model to the 725 would now be the DVP-NS930. Guessing you paid around the £500 mark for your 725 so that should more then cover the NS930 (around the £300 mark). It build on your old machines strong points but with extra goodies. Only in silver though whick is a bit of a bummer if your machine is the black or white version.

Hope your insurence company doesn't try to fob you off with a lesser Sony model.

    good luck.

The 930 is available in Black or Silver. Its the 730 that is only available in Silver.

Thanks for your help. We're just waiting to hear from the repairs place re: the verdict on the damage done to see if it'll be covered. If it's a write-off, then we'll insist on the 930 as the replacement model. Thanks again - much appreciated.
