Been looking to change my surname back to my mothers maiden name for a few years now. Just wondered if anyone has ever done it, is it complicated and faffy?

My 2 stepsons have done it it the last 12 months, very easy just find a local solicitor and when you get the deed make sure you have at least 3 certified copies.
Once you have the deed you must change the name on your driving licence immediately, passport can wait though. Both require you send the original deed and not a certified copy.
You also need to inform the Department of Work and Pensions for your tax and NI but this can be done over the phone.
Local Doctors might need a certified copy of the deed, Banks and Credit card will usually require a certified copy of the deed or need to see the original.

All in all quite painless really

It was really simple to change my name by deed poll to Mike Hunt.

As I soon discovered, it was also very simple to change it back.

Only thing to not overlook is changing the passport name and driver license. The actually process is super easy but it takes a few months to get it sorted with all your suppliers banks, credit cards, work etc...

Not complicated but solicitors (and most generally will run the process) can charge up to £100 for the privilege.

    Yours,

    Aaron C. Reskew

*waits to see if @leamspaceman notices*

I did it, think it was £30 to remove an aphostrophe from my first name then l later realised there was no need as the spelling was the same....:(.
    Easy enough though.

Served with a guy who changed his name by deed poll after losing a bet to James Bond, 3 months minimum, then he was free to do what he wanted. Not sure if he kept it or not.
