There a good few user guide.

But essentially after 50K miles the factory warranty is gone, but the battery/motor will still be under warranty for 8 year and unlimited miles.

The key difference in cars is introduction of 'Dual motor' cars and original 'Autopilot' in 2015, and than 'Autopilot' 2.0+ hardware in cars made late 2016. If you want the 'Full self driving' stuff Tesla is doing you will need a car with Autopilot 2.0+ hardware - 8 cameras around the car versus.

The 'new' £90k+ Model S is actually underneath very similar to the original 2012 cars and even today one with 170K miles on the battery offers virtually the same range as a brand new EV from many other makes!

Tesla is also now offering battery replacement packs for older cars out of warranty, they aren't cheap at present, but will essentially give an old Model S near 300 miles range at 70mph, more than most other brand New EVs onsale today - 300miles of range at 70mph isn't cheap to get brand new either.

If you aren't bothered about 'Full self driving' a cheap (£30K) Model S will last you a long time yet, but still offer the potential in future to be upgrade with more range officially from Tesla.

Get an AP2.0+ car its essentially future proofed even for 'Full self driving' more than any other brand new car you buy today, though clearly you will have to still pay for the software it the original owner hasn't specced it - Currently nearly £10k!!!

Really? My weekend 13 year old car has an original engine and done 105,000K and runs lovely. Has this guy has never seen traffic before in his life and worry about a head wind really?

Personally I think you could find match better videos as this one rings alarm bells all over IMHO.

It suggests to me that don't keep the car out of the Tesla motor/battery warranty and if you want one safer to get a newer on under PCP/lease.

@Kwman Who have you gone for? The official Tesla extended warranty doesn't cover lights, air con lines, air suspension, so aside from doors its pretty worthless!
There are a few out there. I chose Motoreasy. The only niggle I have met so far was they want invoices made out to them so they can reclaim the VAT. If you can't do that they will only pay the net figure.

Not sure if others operate the same way and it was really just a stab in the dark on why I chose Motoreasy.

Both presenters have more experience with EVs than anyone else you can name. They certainly both know far more about EVs than any one from traditional car review sites.

Headwind has a big impact on ANY EV interms of range.

The Tesla motor/battery warranty is 8 years. You can run on on PCP/lease but its not cheap versus owning outright over 8 years.

Thanks, have you made many claims?

The Tesla one is £3300 for 4 years, if it covered stuff like lights I would go for it, but it doesn't.

I guess it depends on you definition of cheaper. Most people these days work on a monthly budge and don't have 40-50k in the bank to spend on a car.

Regard good reviewing methods you could, you drive to car both ways to balance out wind assistance/resistance. More importantly prep the as shown below to ensure it a balanced test. Now it's not a lab test fore sure, but it seam to more instructive. Now this is not a Tesla , but the guy does have a Tesla behind the BMW.

So I did this to the X when rushing around a few weeks ago, purely my fault didn't see a parking column despite various beepers going off.

Essentially the plastic trim around the passenger rear door damaged, cheapest part on eBay was £90, but I didn't really fancy stripping the part my self and fitting.

So I took the car in today, first time I've taken it to the service center for non warranty work, and waited it to bee done. The whole surprisingly quick/efficient, I had barely finished the complimentary coffee/biscuits whilst editing a work report and got the message the work was done and a few minutes later the car was parked up ready to go.

The final bill was barely believable from a 'main dealer', I checked and double checked, yeaph it was the correct amount, they even did some additional greasing to the CV joints for 'free'.

I didn't bother any extended warranty on the X in the end, and if these are some of the costs Tesla chargers for repairs than I've got no real worries owning the car out of warranty.

£33, that is a bloody bargain!
To be honest that's how much it should be. £2 trim and a 5 minute job. Hence why many call them stealers. I've found a local garage that doesn't rip people off. Even uses genuine parts from VW if you request

I'm sure many others it would be £90 for the trim and and around £100 labour.

100% agree.

Lexus charged me £90+VAT for a rear reflector what probably cost 90p to make. I didn't even bother asking how much it cost to fit.

For a 'main dealer' to charger £33.70 to supply and fit not a insubstantial trim piece is pretty unheard of. Even your local independent is going to want £50 I would have though, given the trim also includes a rubber seal.

As I said, stealers. It's a con really.
Might be cheap for stuff life that but I'd hate to see the price of something like the regenerative braking needed some work.

So Tesla Main dealers clearly aren't stealers. Am quite happy to use them instead of previous independent garages.

Brake regen is done by the motor, thats got a 8 year unlimited miles warranty. After that US owners have been quoted $5k for new drive units out of warranty, but that's a rare occurrence and usually only in cars with 100ks on the motor.

Am running our X out of warranty now so I'll keep you updated on running costs.

I agree that for sure Telsa are trying to run with the best of the Japanese for customer service, but I also know that relying on good will for something a 10k battery pack is risky.

^Battery pack warranty is pretty solid for 8 years, and currently a replacement 90kWh pack is around £20k installed. But that actually gives my car MORE range than new. Compared to buying a brand new car it may actually work out cheaper to keep the current one and just replace the battery pack every decade. We'll see how it goes....

About 20 years ago, BMW wanted £190 plus labour for a 5 series foglight.

VW have previously been OK with price matching local garages, until recently. I needed two cars serviced, one an MOT as well plus a cambelt change. VW wanted around £1150 for all of that. Local specialist wanted around £800. VW did everything they could to not price match, so I complained and booked into the specialist. They then tried really hard to get me to book and price match, but on principal I said no.

Cool you can, but do you actually use it? My car comes with all of that and rear screens and can plug stuff in. And have a dual vision screen upfront that I played with once when my wife was driving with the Satnav view and I put on the news on my passenger view with broadcast tv. Screens in the back have never been used.

Who actually sits in their car and watches or plays games. We generally just chat as a family, together with some music. Besides the driver surely needs to keep their eye on the road.

I love my tech but I don’t get it in a car taking you from a-B.

I love my tech but I don’t get it in a car taking you from a-B.

It depends on if the car can literally take you from A to B without much input from you.....The biggest surprise to me with the recent my Tesla 'service' (apart from the cost) was the fact Tesla could access/work on my car without ever asking for my key or even any additional input from me.

Effectively Tesla now have the software in place in each to 'activate' them totally remotely with no need for a human in the car. So the next step, if you can 'activate' the car remotely and than the software can 'drive' the car from A to B with no human input you are there with 'Autonomy'

Tesla have just pushed their latest FSD Beta software to more US owners, its by no means autonomous but the progress they are making is quite remarkable, and I don't think anyone can bet against them on achieving it sooner rather than later. At that point all our perceptions of what cars should do/can do is quite different.
