Hi,

Going to the Algarve tomorrow and picking up a car at the airport.

Has anyone driven in the Algarve recently, particularly on the A22 - the motorway that runs East<>West along the coast.

Read that this is a Toll Road but without any Toll Infrastructure. So there are only two ways of paying

1) Use a Toll Tag picked up from the hire car company - possibly already pre-fitted like they are in the USA.

2) Wait 48 hours then pay in a Post Office with 5 days

Is that correct?

Option (2) won't work as we won't be able to pay for the journeys on the last days of the holiday and will probably end up with big fine.

So it will have to be option (1) but do you get hit with a daily charge just for having the tag enabled even when you don't use the tolls. When I last used one in the US I ended up with a bill as follows

Toll - $0.75
Tag Charge - $25.00
TOTAL - $25.75

Cheers,

Nigel

No...but hope you enjoy it, we've been a few times and prefer the less touristy part as that are east of faro...

Places like - olhao (and the little island ilha da armona close by), loule, sao bras de alportel, Vila real de Santo Antonio, and Castro Marim...edit and estoi..

Worth checking out if you like visiting small towns etc
