Trying to work out what the difference is. Looked at manuals, website, etc, but no info on the chips inside the 585.
Technical or subjective impressions very welcome.

Not much comment so far but what I've seen tends to suggest Pioneer have taken a step back with the 585...PJ :)

I would also like to know this. I wonder if a lot of the negativity has come from one of the recent tests where it didn't come out as well as the 575.

As someone mentioned, this could just be because it hasn't moved on enough.

I'm about to buy one of these two, at the moment probably the 575 due to price but is anyone here in a position to give them a proper head to head?

585 can play dual layer DVD-R, DVD+R officially. Many people find the 575 can as well but if they don't tough, Pioneer never said it could.

Report on various forums are the 585 isn't quite as well made.

Same mediatek chip but the current 585 firmware isn't quite up to the standard of the final 575 firmware. Nto much in the way of 3rd party / hacked 585 firmware yet. 575 has several, including a region free version for those without access to IR device to send the region free code.

I think I read the 585 had less connections that the 575 though all the important ones are covered.

Still no support on 585 or 575 for packed bitsteam xvids.

    Thats about it........
