Has anyone changed any of the standard fit Megane II head unit or speakers?
I'm trying to find out what the front speaker wiring polarity is.

The oem speakers have a proprietary fitting and the spades are the same size so I can't work it out from that.
There's nothing in the manual or on the oem speakers/wiring to indicate which is +ve or -ve.

Renault won't provide me with the information unless I pay them! :censored:

    Anyone know?

Hi, I am a professional installer working for hyde park corner(we do argos halfords etc)

The best way of working out the polarity is to remover the radio and the speakers and use a multimeter or test light to "buzz out" the cables. With no speakers or radio connected you should easily be able to work out which is pos/neg at the speaker.Personnaly I would wire it up and listen for phase.. but not everyone can tell when its wrong!

    Hope this helps

Hi James - thanks for the advice.
TBH, that's a bit too much work just to work out which is which and is my last resort option.
I do have it wired up presently but I can't actually hear that much difference
Then again, my ears aren't what they used to be...

I guess if the worst comes to the worst then I can buzz out the wires but I'd rather not.

P.S. Never buy a Renault

James, i must admit you've lost me with this one. I can't see how using a test lamp will show anything more that continuity and to what ends are you using a meter to find the speaker polarity ?

Well it seems I may have worked it out...

I took the head unit out and as I suspected, there was just a plastic block of cables with no information at all.
I noticed that the speaker wires for the fronts and tweeters were the same colour and from the same terminal on the back of the head unit.

I removed the tweeters and luckily, they are fitted with a suppressor.
As the new Kenwoods are also fitteed with a suppressor on the +ve terminal, I assumed this must also be the same for the tweeters.
So I wired up the same colour wire on the tweeter suppressors to the terminal with the suppressor on the Kenwood.

After all that, I got a reply from Renault saying they were looking into it after telling them where to stick their customer services so I may even get the 'official' answer soon...

Hi Brogan, your car should have a standard ISO plug for the stereo. This is an industry standard and should be very easy to find the wiring diagram on the web.
