Im going next week for two weeks, just wandering what the prices are like, are they edited tfor malaysia? I know they have strong censorship laws there.

VCD is huge there, I saw many more vcds than dvd's.

Prices were a lot like over here. There are a LOAD of people selling pirates though.

    Whereabouts are you going?

I believe they have one of the biggest pirate markets over there, so chances of you finding legal copies are low. Pirated copies are generally US versions.

I know a friend who bought a load of stuff over there. Fairly decent quality, but bootleg. They look good so don't be fooled.

I have heard it is harder to find originals than it is copies. I wouldn't bother wasting my time or cash.

I hope you have a nice trip. :)

I can definately see your point. There will be loads of electronics to browse through. MP3 players, cameras, camcorders, laptops, displays etc...

Originals sell in department stores or big video (chain) stores but R3s may be censored to some extend. Imported R1 discs are usually expensive, if you can find them.
Most stuff you find on the street / night markets is pirated, as it will be evident from the prices and the quality (or rather lack thereof).

Have fun in Langkawi, nice place.

If u r taking bout original DVDs, u shld check out at S&M Complex, near to Pasar Seni/Petaling Street. There are many shops in that complex that offer reasonable prices/discounts

Usually local made R3s packaging look sucky and might be censored. if possible, get HK R3s, etc (it cost around RM30-RM50 bucks per title)

    imported R1s r usually expensive as hell (RM100+ - RM200+)

im back, thanks for the tips, luckily managed to avoid all shopping apart from the duty free (Langkawai , all of it is duty free!!), luckily wife also enjoyed the island enough to keep shopping to a minimum in Kuah, great place to go as a taster for South East Asia.

I've put in on my places to go back to (Malaysia) along with South Africa. PPL are very friendly, food was excellent and cheap, I hired a car for a few days and found some fabulous public beaches. Reccommended.

I agree with everything apart from the food. I thought it was dreadful.

Oh no, how can it be? Malaysian, Indian, Chinese food ... so much choice in Malaysia.
Interestingly there is (was?) a small restaurant near Chenang beach where you could have the best seafood pizza ever. :)
