I bought a Malata DVD-N966 player that's region-free and has a PAL to or from NTSC converter. So, I ordered THE BATTLE OF THE RIVER PLATE from Blackstar. It's anamorphic with mono sound or so it sez. Did I choose an decent looking film to be among my first out of region discs? BTW, I'm in wee-jun uno. I also got FORT APACHE which is, of course, in Academy ratio. They don't sell that here either... If anybody has any suggestions for any wothwhile wee-jun tooo discs that are outstanding, I'm game. Now, if only DAMBUSTERS would come out somewhere! Thanks for any advice or opinions!
...haven't seen the FA disc, but BOTRP is indeed a 'decent-looking' disc... ...if you're interested in further exploring Powell & Pressburger movies, I also recommend their A Canterbury Tale and, especially, A Matter Of Life And Death... http://onfilm.chireader.com/MovieCaps/C/CA/01618_CANTERBURY_TALE.html http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/detail.asp?product=7000000053371 http://www.eufs.org.uk/films/a_matter_of_life_and_death.html http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/detail.asp?product=7000000048893 ...and, from pre-Hollywood Hitchcock: Young And Innocent (1937) and the original Tha Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)... http://onfilm.chireader.com/MovieCaps/Y/YO/09626_YOUNG_AND_INNOCENT.html http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/detail.asp?product=7000000058438 http://indigo.ie/~obrienh/man34.htm http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/detail.asp?product=7000000054308 Enjoy! . . . . . .
Muchas gracias European! I already have THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. These other films are new to me. Great links! I may order one or more of these films. The two Powell & Pressburger films sound particularly intresting. I love the old timey films. Thanks again!
