Anybodies 360 died recently?

    My 2nd Console has just died, 3 red rings 'Game Over'

    When my first one died it was a straight forward swop at PC World as it was only 6 months old.

    This time my console is about 17 months old.

    I haven't been keeping much tabs on 360 failures and returns policies etc etc as I had my fingers crossed that I'd never need to know.

    Anyway, I've just read that warranties have been extended to 3 yrs.

    So for those of you who's 360 has just died what have they been doing?

    I have the original box, but I don't think I have the receipt. Is this going to be a major prob? I can't remember when the first 360 was released but I'm sure its not over 3yrs so this would mean all the early consoles are covered.

    Also surely the serial number can prove date of manufacture etc.


    Thanks in advance for any replies, the quicker I can sort this then the quicker I can get back online :)

    Mine went day before xmas eve. Was just over a year old so couldnt return to Gamestation.

    You need to log onto Xbox website and register your fault, they will ask for the serial number and this will tell you if it is in warranty with MS. 3 years is the timeframe so everyones should be.

    You tell them whats wrong and they either send you an electronic label (which means you provide the packaging) or you request them to send you all the packaging. I went for electronic cos its just faster. You then need to call up UPS with the reference from the electronic label and arrange for them to collect. Once they collect expect to wait 10-15 days for it to return to you. Keep an eye on your fault on the xbox website so you can track its status. After MS have sent it out you can also track it on the UPS website using the ref number you'll get from xbox site.

    Hope that makes sense and helps. I only just got mine back yesterday after 3 red lights.

    mine went yesterday.... that'll be the third replacement from microsoft.

    1st - repeated disc scrached faulty disc errors sent for repair

    2nd - the replacement they sent while updating live after the first time i plugged it in borked and went three red lights

    3rd - maybe 9 months later was playing last night and after about 5minutes play graphics suddenly went. looked like it had dropped into vga 16 colour of old pc games. now i get nothing when i turn it on.

    waiting for ms to pick up and replace.

    like MrMMM24 said, but i did it over the phone. however doing it online might stop the foreign call center person making you go through there stupid process of trying it with hard drive, trying without hard drive, trying power lead out, trying power lead in etc.....

    Do you get the same unit back, or is it a replacement/refurbished one? Mine just went tonight (red ring of death :mad: ).

    If it's a replacement, it would be nice if it was one with HDMI on it ;) But I suspect they will do a repair job. :smashin:

    I'm not sure if its the same unit or not. I don't think it is. It does'nt have an HDMI port though

    Mine was picked up by UPS yesterday so should be back in 2 to 3 weeks i hope. Nice and fixed. Think i will get mine back not a new one.

    i have sent an angry letter to ms in hope of an apology

    doubt theres much chance though

    I only had one console break last year and kicked off on the fone really bad when I got it back.
    I told them my headset stopped working as well, yep they sent me a new one!! Also I have 3 gold accounts and complained for the time I didnt have the 360 and they emailed me 3 x 1 month gold codes - Result.:smashin:

    just got a phone call from ms regarding my complaint and was offered a selection of old games i've either played or didn't want, a wireless headset which i have allready or a wireless controller of which i already have 2.

    i told them that i would rather just have my time back on live but was informed they didn't have live codes to offer and i must choose one of the other options so i said i'd have the controller but would be placing another complaint.

    I wonder if any Falcon's have already died due to RROD. I definitely wouldn't mind that mine broke since it has a VERY loud drive (don't think Ms will swap it due to complaints about a loud drive).

    don't knoyou could chance itw if any falcons went RRoD yet but you could phone up and tell old microsoft some porkie pies. Just give them all the symtems and they should replace it, however you most likely won't get a falcon returned and no guarentee the drive will be any quiter.

    sorry Dexstroyer, didn't mean to give the impression you were telling fibs.

    when the guy phoned i had a moan and said i wanted the live but he said i could have what was offered or go sing for it, so i'm deffinatly placing some more complaints.

    do you still have the e-mail you sent, or remeber what you said on the phone.

    allthough don't know if i've blown my chances by taking the controller.

    Mine packed up last week too, 13 months old. Typical.

    Pathetic product. If only MS' customer service were as good as Sonys I wouldn't have to wait a number of weeks to get back into gaming.

    No I know you werent mate, dont worry.

    All I did was do a lot of moaning and just wasnt moving on what they were saying.
    All I can think of is that they have hardened after so many people have complained, my advice would be to try again.
    How long were you without your 360?

    I have had it 13months.

    Premium version non HDMI. Was made on 24/09/06

    Missing COD4 fix. I was wondering if it was worth trading this one in for an elite once it is returned?

    Certainly is mate but unlike me cos I didnt find out until I bought mine, if you have a bit of cheek about you when they bring your nice new shinny Elite out from the back of the store check the label on the outside of the box, next to the bar code you want one that says 175W. If you get one of these then this is "apparently" a guranteed Falcon system, google it dont take my 100% for it.
    Mine says 203W which is the Zephyr setup which isnt as bad as the launch consoles but the 175W is seen as the most reliable.

    Like I say google it all and decide for yourself...

    Does anyone know what the status "returned to shipper means on UPS tracking. As im waiting for my 360 to come back.?

    What happens to all your saved games/progress and gamerscore stats etc when you get your machine replaced ?

    When you send it away TBird your told to remove your hard drive and all leads and disc. Just to send the basic console. So you lose nothing mate.

    Am I right in thinking that I will be sent a box for me to put the 360 in and then ship it off to MS?

    I'm sure I read this when registering the fault and would be told when the item shipped to me.

    I have had an email with the electronic details but no mention of any box?

    You seem to have to supply your own box. Not only that, but you'll have to make sure it's sturdy enough to survive 2 journeys at the hands of UPS, as they'll ship it back to you in the same packaging it arrived in.

    I used my own packaging to send away but it came back in a different box provided by MS so wouldnt worry too much about making ultra sturdy.
