    Hi all,

As I'm a fulltime carer for my wife at home, I'm hoping to get back into remote support from home but I haven't touched Windows Server since SBS 2008 so I'm hoping to find a Xeon based Server ideally so I can run ESXi along with Server 2012 eval and maybe more.

Has anyone got any kit for sale? I'm based in Bristol and have family in Plymouth and Haywards Heath.

    Thanks in advance

    Location: Bristol

Nothing for sale here but I recently bought a fantastic little server from bargainhardware.co.uk. It's a HP DL380 G6. 2 x quad Xeon processors and 16gb ram (ok to start with and very cheap to upgrade) its a 2u server and they cost £95 delivered. Can't go wrong for that price IMO.

Just thought it's worth a mention, HDDs are not a deal breaker as I already have a few sata drives here.

    For Sale - SERVER
Good morning. I purchased the above and I have never got round to using it as my pc died the following week and I ended up buying a dual Xeon pc and just threw all my drives into that.
I am moving house soon and its just taking up space, I would like £120 for it but you would need to arrange collection as it is a beast.

    Hi Chris,

Are you talking about the GL360 ?

Scrap that, I just realised it was a link.

Thanks for the offer chap but I'll have to pass, that's a bit of a beast.

I'd like to run the latest ESXi if poss and according to the chart the Xeon's installed are not compatible, thanks anyway.

    Thanks

Forgive me if I am wrong but I don't think its a blade server. It is basically a case about twice the size of a large pc tower with all the stuff inside like a pc would have, all the drives etc are contained within. I never got round to learning anything more about it because I replaced my pc instead when it died.
    I am near Wolverhampton.

I have a decent set of hardware for sale -

For Sale - X99 Mobo, CPU, DDR4, NZXY AIO

It has 16 logical processors and 64GB ram - so plenty of VM capacity. I could probably do a deal with a PSU & case if your interested.

If it tickles your fancy just make sure the motherboard / memory is ESXi certified for the version you are looking at. I used Windows 10 professional which supports VM's.

Thanks chap, I missed the cashback deal recently on the gen8, I’ve been looking at Dell T310/410 found one but it’s too far away up north. A couple of 310’s on eBay but low ram means I’ll have to buy more so need to find the right type at a decent price. Currently have an old T110 which was donated to me but it’s too slow to run the latest ESXi and the old memory makes it expensive to upgrade anyway

You can either wait around for another cashback deal (they come back often) or ask on here for a 2nd hand Gen 7 (N54L), I'm sure someone will have what you're looking for

The server that SSThing posted about is a Viglen tower server running dual Xeon E5506 CPUs on an Intel Server motherboard. Think you maybe mistaken about compatability with the latest version of ESXi.

Although TBH you haven't given a budget for your purchase which can make it difficult to advise.
Also the item you want doesn't have to be a server it can also be a workstation that will run ESXi.

I did say “Scrap that as I realised it was a link”

From what I read it was not compatible with the latest ESXI which is no different than the T100 I have here which doesn’t run 6.5 and only goes to v5

My budget is modest as I did mention from the start that I’m merely a carer. If someone offers a server at £100 or £200 than I’ll have a look at the spec offered and go from there.

    Thanks
