as the topic really, has anyone found a utility that'll let you limit the reading speed of a pioneer DVR - 107, it makes a good awful noise with CDs and is even bit loud for dvd use.

thanks

I think there was one on the pioneer site that did this, but i don't know if it works with the DVR-107, this was a while back.

In general you can get older firmwares from here http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/

And the official ones from e.g. here - http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/firmware.html

And in general just search on google, there are loads of dvd writer forums.

However, the bad news is that 107 doesn't have the speed limiter utility and can not be used with it, but the A07-J version can be used with "The Pioneer Advanced Quiet Sound Utility" which can be downloaded here - http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Software/All.asp?Category=General Use

The information is from this thread - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread/t-88139.html

nero come bundled with a program that does exactly what you want. Strange, my NEC drive is unbelievably quiet........

Thanks for the replies, this is what I was worried about, Nero doesn't work at all with these drives (in terms of limiting speeds, it burns fine) and the advanced quiet util only works on Japanese 107's.

Since it seems that I'm never going to get this thing quiet enough, can any one recommend a tray-loading DVD-ROM (don't really need the RW function in my living room) that can be restricted to the quietest level for reading CDs and DVDs (ideally 1x), either with a utility from the manufacturer or with nero drive speed.

Thanks
