I'm looking for something part time with flexible working hours. Can you make a decent living taxi driving or is it a non starter?

If it's a non starter then it won't be any good as a taxi. :)

Must be better ways of making a few pounds. What about pizza delivery or shelf stacking? At least you'll get discount food in the deal. Driving a taxi in the unsocial hours comes complete with risks

I drive a taxi and love it, well I do when I can be bothered working.

The hours are great as you can work when you want.

I do very well on the money side of things. Not too sure on the area where you work but I drive in Blackpool. You might find it hard at first finding all the streets but after a week or two you should be alright. If you do decide to drive a taxi make sure you buy a map of your town and surrounding areas, you'd be surprised as to how many taxi driver who start and don't have any maps and end up getting lost.

Give me a shout if you have any more questions.

I think it depends on where abouts you are. A mate of mine used to do it as a 2nd job and I remember him saying that during the week it was virtually dead but good at the weekends.

I may be made redundant in the next couple of months. I can make some money as a musician but need something that is totally flexible that I can do when not working in music.

I live in Kent. Maidstone and Ashford are the nearest towns.

It might be quieter during the week but you also get fewer cars working than you do at the weekend, I've had some cracking nights money wise on a Tuesday or Wednesday, saying that I only work at night and don't work during the day.

Do you know how long it will take for you to get your badge as you will have to have a police check, pass a knowledge test, doctors medical etc.

If you do become a taxi driver at the start of the month plan the days/nights you will work and stick to it NEVER say you will do another day instead as you will end up chasing your tail.

I get 6 months pay in lieu of notice on top of my redundancy so I'll have time to get that all sorted. As I say, working in music is what I really intend doing so I only want to cabbie when there's no music work
