Hi

I wonder if Sony plans to release DPL2 receivers soon as I personnaly think this is a must-have for extending the use of 5.1 channel sound to digital TV broadcast ?

If not, how do Sony DSP modes in latest models compare to DPL2 when applied to DPL or stereo audio sources ?

Sony DSP modes are crap. Other manufacturers are just the same. Avoid all of them. Personally I have found 3 DSP modes that I thought were well designed. Lexicon Logic 7, Meridian (licenced ) Tri Field and Tag TMS. Now we have both variants of Dolby Pro Logic 11, music and film. These work VERY well and are strongly recommended.

All the above are in a different league re sound quality to the 'DSP' modes. I hope Sony and everyone launches players with PL2 ASAP. In fact I would go as far to say, I would not buy a new product without it.

PS DTS Neo is also crap! Unlike DTS I might add.

PPS Why do you want it on a Sony?

    Thanks

Do you know if this amps is already available ?

Do you know if Sony plans to extend this kind of signal decoding (dpl2) to less expensive produts ? (in the STRDB range for example)

Thanks again for the link :)

Yes but if you click the link, you'll see that it's not the 555ES but a newer version.

Crutchfields says it does have DPL2...

    Any more info ?

Yes I can see its a "da" I'm just not sure if that's the U.S name for the va-555es.
The reason I say that is the VA-555es is brand new,due to be released the end of sept. Not to be confused with strv-555es which is the old 5.1 channel amp.
Also the VA-555es looks exactly the same as that DA,even so far as the vertical blue light instead of the old models horizontal one.
If it is a different amp,Sony still told me they had no DPL2 amps in the pipeline. But could be wrong.

As usual Sony's customers are the most reliable information source about their products...

It's a shame they don't have detailled specs clearly available online or in their catalogue where they almost just mention number of channels and power...

I wonder when we'll get this receiver here in France :)

here's a quote from another thread from the same site (its full of interesting info):

"Regarding DPL II, the website doesn`t say anything about DPL II. On the other hand, Sony seem to be a bit embarrassed about including DPL II, so this doesn`t mean it`s not there.
If Sony (Germany)follow their pattern from the info for the upcoming European model STR-VA555ES, the info about DPL II is hidden away in a "technical specs"-site, as a specification of "what kind of Pro Logic". And this "technical specs" aren`t yet published for E10ES, it seems.(I assume Sony`s Marketing Director soon will be offered a promotion to a nice job in the transport-department)

Anyway, it is a pretty safe bet that TA-E10ES will have DPL II onboard, as the new upper-class Sony-recievers have it.

    Karl Erik Sylthe"

that discussion was about the new TA-E10ES

Could someone describes the new sony range of receivers ?

Which receivers already support DPL2 ? I thought none.
