Interesting, but still a while to go, by the sound of it.

Am assuming you were looking at the TVs of course... ;)

I can't help thinking that these guys are missing the point. Who's going to buy a 'space saving' CRT TV? It's not like you're going to mount it on the wall and impress your friends with you're picture frame TV because it must still weigh as much as a conventional CRT. And since the centre of gravity is likely to be even closer to the front edge of the TV than normal I'd be concerned about it falling over forwards too easily. And where are they going to put the electronics if not under the neck of the CRT? And does the general public beleive that LCD and plasma TVs have a picture quality problem? And how long before LCD catches up with CRT on that front anyway? The only way that product's going to have a future is if it's much cheaper than existing CRT designs, which somehow I doubt.

I have to agree with all you said.

I think it all depends how much further down in price Plasma and LCD go, as they've got to fall a long way yet to attract the mainstream public.

The competition between LCD/Plasma/CRT is hotting up, but it makes our choice even harder.

Philips have a long history of developing products that don't (or only just) make it to the marketplace.

For the reasons stated above, this would seem to be the latest example.

But then, if nobody backed new ideas...
