I am currently on my 4th M87, current one has severe scart banding on EXT2 and faint banding on EXT1.

I am getting sick and tired of taking it back. Is there a possible fix for this banding?

    TIA

What are you connecting up? Are you using decent scart cables or the poorly shielded ones that come bundled with most equipment?

From my experience with TV engineers, you would would probably get more help asking a Chimp at your local Zoo.

I am using a Thor 1.5m scart cable between Sky+ and TV. It's not the cable, it's the tv.

I have a very LE40M87 recent set, and the same problems. It's common on these panels - search the LE40M87 thread.

    No fix I'm afraid.

I know it's a common problem, just wanted to know if Samsung engineers knew about the issue and any possible fix in the pipeline?

Someone did post a picture of a possible fix. It's a while since I last looked at the M86/M87 thread (as I purchased a V3000 instead) but I still think it's there. You'll have to go back a few pages I reckon.

All he did was fix a tie-wire thing to the back of the TV to re-direct the scart cabling away from a certain area that he said caused the banding. He posted a pic of what he'd done and said it either eliminated or reduced the banding.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

    That was me :rotfl:

    Link is here

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6040067&postcount=10692

I found that by using the cable tie(already on back of the set) reduced the scart interference quite well.

I dont think its the fault of the LCD as this kind of thing is well reported problem with many Sky boxes and TV's regardless of the make.

Thanks for the link. I already use the cable tie on the back of the tv to tie back all the cables, apart from the power cord. Don't want the power cord close to the scart cable. I currently use a Thor scart, so not a cheapie one. It is not just the Sky though causing interference. If I connect either the Nintendo Wii or my DVD recorder upto the EXT2 the picture is truely awful.

If there is no possible fix I may take it back (again, this is my 4th set).

It is the power cable that you need to route. Try that and see what happens. The idea is to keep the power cable away from the sockets cable to cable interference is not going to happen as the cables are sufficently insulated.

How is keeping the power cable next to the scart cable going to improve the interference?

No, the interference is a scart issue.

Hi i have the same thing(banding waves moving down the screen) on my tv le40m87 i recently bought a qed 2110 scart cable thinking that would solve it but it hasnt.I dont always notice it though it doesnt seem to happen on every channel (sky+).

does this mean my tvs faulty or is this just something you have to live with on this tv with SD via a scart cable?

    Hello,

Still confused, pictures posted by mcjibba show both power lead and scart lead tied together by the TV's cable tie. Is this correct?/has anyone actually tried this?

I am not an expert but would have thought these leads should be kept apart to stop the banding. Should the power lead or even the scart lead by held by the tie individually. Which one???

Please confirm what you have done and whether this has been sucessful.

    Thanks

    Steve

If you look on the dedicated ME4087/86 thread (apologies - I don't know how to post links) there's some debate going on about this issue (amongst others!) - there is a train of thought that a firmware upgrade to 2013 will fix the problem. Interestingly, when I rang Samsung about this, the fool I spoke to on the phone denied any existance of firmware 2013, or 2012 for that matter - even though I've checked my TV and I have 2012!!!

I've been experiencing the banding since I got the set last month, and any time now I'm expecting an engineer to come round and have a look.

I'll reprt back after the weekend with the results...

Hi, look forward to the update. I too have scart banding, EXT2 is unwatchable, EXT1 seems to get better the longer the TV is on. I bought my M87 back in January, think I am on firmware 2012 as well.

Ironic really, this is my 4th M87, previous 3 did not suffer from banding, just had other issues!!!

Right - just got home and had a quick test of the TV - I can happily confirm that the firware upgrade HAS sorted out the issue.

Previously I had firware 2012 and when watching Sky+ through RGB SCART on Ext1 the banding was quite prominent. Now, following the engineers visit, I am on firware 2013, and the same scenes on Sky+ that previously showed the banding, are now flawless. Absolutely nothing else has changed in my setup, so it has to be the firmware that solves the issue.

Unfortunately I don't use Ext 2 so I can't confirm that the banding was there before, but it certainly isn't now.

A word of advice though - if you ring Samsung to request this upgrade they might try to deny there's anything wrong or the upgrade will work - persevere and hopefully the engineer that comes out will be as clued up as the one we had and your problem should be fixed.

Hi, can you tell me what panel you have ? I'm only asking as I am running 2012 on a samsung panel (according to the label) and have no issues at all watching sky via ext1 or 2!!

I'm guessing I should not bother with any firmware update following the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" method.

    :)

Back sticker of the tv. All the way to the right of the line that contains the model code LE##M8#BD [R]. Its after the [R]. Either C, S or A is the letter you are looking for.
