ive read various threads about flat panels with hdmi connections , yet theres millions of lcd tvs and plasmas without that connection, just conponent. thats why it wont ever take off for years. when it eventually takes off the ones with the hdmi connection now will be out of date.:suicide:

What do you mean 'take-off'? Do you mean you wont see any benefit by having a HDMI input? If thats what you mean then you are wrong IMHO. DVI->HDMI or HDMI->HDMI is the best way to connect a HTPC to a HDTV by far(well DVI is also fine, but you were talking about component only TVs). Furthermore, on the the TV settop box market HDMI equipped devices have already arrived. For example the current digital cable box supplied på TDC here in denmark has HDMI output, and the next version of the Dreambox(DVB-S/T/C box) which should arrive this year will also have a HDMI output.

I agree with Azirath.
The Sky HD box (made by Thomson) and the Pace 810 & forthcoming 815 both have HDMI outputs as does the Humax 2000.
Theoretically you get better PQ because there is one less digital-to-analogue conversion in the signal chain.

I think it should be “is there any point in buying an LCD without HDMI” and its also hard to find many LCD TV’s without at least one HDMI.
