Looking for a new upgrade from my Sony 725D player and noticed that there doesn't seem to be any flagship dvi equipped player from Sony. What happened to them?

Need a player with DVI out and seems a Denon/Pioneer 2 way race... :(

I think there may be development of a new Sony flagship, whether it has DVI is not certain though although it should do... should be out early next year. But be wary of upgrading just for DVI as the premium you pay may not be worth the rewards.. it may be better that component but how much better is questionable. I've still got the Sony DVP-S525D, still going strong and haven't found a need to replace it (also the GUI is a gem) and works a treat on the panny pwd6 via component! :smashin:

yeah I like the GUI, I like the player in fact, just brought it back into action via component to the projector, and it can sit there proud as it's kicked my Accent HCPC into touch (sold to work)! Only company with a HCPC for a desktop! Hated it.

Anyway, since I have a H57 projector on order, fancy an upgrade still. Lets hope Sony gets a move on with it :D

Consider the Arcam DV-79 and DV-29, both of which are top notch performers with a digital output.

Did consider Arcam but I find them way overpriced for what they are, and they aren't without bugs with that premium price. :nono:

My Arcam dvd has not had any troubles.

I read a lot of threads about problems with both Denon and Pioneer DVD players.

    Nothing is perfect. :)

im sure there is a new Sony player that has HDMI (basicaly same as DVi) ouputs.

Im not sure if its in the same league as the denons or pioneers but its a decent player.

    Sony DVP-NS975V

Its a newer model but i still dont know if it has HDMI or not.

Personaly i dont care as the Marantz 9500, the Denon 3910 and the Pioneer 969Avi
are all amazing players much better than anything sony will ever make.

Don't underestimate Sony, they may have lost the edge on DVD player technology right now but you can always bet on the worlds biggest electronics manufacturer to have a come back in the future! But yes they do need a decent ES flagship soon!

I think sony are dissmising DVD technology and focusing on Blu Ray.

Thats all there is to it!

In early DVD days Sony ruled the roost with their DVP-s7000/7700.

Hope they come back with something spectacular but as mentioned they might have swung to 'blue-ray' stuff.

As for buggy players & nothings perfect, well that's why I havn't bought a Denon etc.

So, who has a Marantz with DVI then?

I agree. I think they realise the dvd market is flooded and so have shifted their focus to get in early with the future hi-def format. To this end they've been the first to release a Blu-Ray player in Japan, (April 2003), and have been buying up film studios to aquire their back catalogue. Plus the PS3 will feature Blu-Ray etc.

If you patient, you might be better off sticking with what you have now, and pick up a Blu-Ray player when they come to UK 2006/7. Unless you replace your equipment every 2/3 years obviously. :)
