Just toying with the idea at the mo!

Whats tempting me is XBMC

Just sorted my moviesheets and now got upgraditus.

Will I notice a difference in PQ? bearing in mind receiver will upscale anyway.

Thanks

It all depends on what kind of files you're planning to stream...

I personally would not consider the ATV to be an upgrade, it's a different kind of device. It doesn't support mkv files natively, which means you'll have to Jailbreak it to get XMBC to work on it and even then you're restricted to 720p on the ATV2, so you're actually reducing the output quality from the WD TV Live

If XMBC is what you're after then either the D-Link or the Iomega Boxee Box units is what you should go for AFAIK they also support Apple Airplay.

If you also want to have HD Audio then the Popcorn Hour units are the ones to go for.

Another solution would be going the nettop route with an Acer Revo or similar.

But unless the files you are planning to stream have a max resolution of 720p I would avoid the ATV.

Ok, thanks.
will look into these two options

Are there forums showing you how to get XMBC onto these units?
