has anyone heard of the specs of the new SKY+ boxes that are coming out before X-mas. Are they going to have component out on them?

I would speculate not. Of course if iLink Out was provided I would upgrade the same day!

    I'd like to see:

    Progressive scan output via component
    Coax audio out
Picture in picture (including being able to see what you are currently recording while watching something else with one/two button presses)
Larger hd as standard (at least 120 GB if not 200 GB)
Ideally a built in dvd burner for archiving old material
Broadband web access, esp if you could using it to select programs more than one week in advance.
    Faster menus
    Caching of the EPG
Screenshots of the programs that you have recorded (can be set via first bookmark) in the planner

    not much, huh?

To provide all this (bar the EPG stuff) all they need to do is provide iLink - the rest can then be provided by one of the many "next generation" HDD/DVDR combo that we will see next year! But I take your point - it would be nice to have it all in one box!

Unfortunately I'm sure we will still only have the same connections we have now in 20 years time! Sky should allow producers such as Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer etc to build modified Sky+ units that they could sell for a premium.

p&p is like the most logical thing in SKY+.
Can't see it being more than just an extra mpeg docoder (+£5 extra cost with their volumes) plus some software modifications. It would be a huge selling point for them.

    Also,
Can'r see why not have high-spec boxes for the customer who are willing to pay, whilst keeping the value ones to expand customer base.
