Were these the pair on ebay? I have the XQ1's and the XQ2C in pearlescent white and, apart from being some of the most attractive speakers (very wife friendly) I have ever seen, they are fantastic sounding, if a little bright. For equivalent money you could probably buy a better sounding speaker, but not one that is as well built and has had such attention to the quality of finish imho.

I have not heard a better centre speaker for the money.

I would kill for a pair of XQ5's in pearlescent white (now discontinued). XQ5's retail at £2100 a pair, (pearlescent white carried an additional £100 premium), but the ones on ebay had a buy-it-now of £1150 which is an absolute bargain, especially as they were new. They didn't sell however. Did you get in touch with them after the auction and negotiate a price? Put me out of my misery then.... how much?

So what did you make of them? I also got a pair cheap (maple for £800), and I love them. Have bi-amped with the Denon 3805 and they are lovely :)

I have the Kef Eggs (3005.1) which I want to add a pair of XQ5s to when I can find a cheap enough pair.

If you have the XQ5s, do you still need a sub-woofer?

I dont have a sub in my setup and it still sounds great - they have a pretty deep sound when required, though I am still planning on getting a sub when the budget allows for it!

Where did you get them for £800? I'm desperate for a pair in Pearlescent White or even XQ3's in the same colour.

Yes indeed, if anyone knows where to get these quality speakers from at a discount, please :lease: let me know.

P.s. for anyone who hasn't heard these speakers, please ignore the average reviews and have a listen, the sound stage of the speakers walks all over the rivals. I listened to the against some MA and Quads and after listening to the KEF's the others sounded like listening through a thin wall. I believe it is the super tweekers, but that is only a guess.

Mine had a slight dent (smaller than a 1p piece) on the edge of one of the speakers, caused by thieves who ram raided the dealers. The dealer got their insurance money, and then bought them back from the assessor and where able to shift them on to me at that bargain price.

I agree that they sound gorgeous. Just got round to biamping them with the Denon 3805 and the truely sound awesome :)
