hey guys,

was looking at richersounds and they have a cheap industrial panasonic plasma 42 inch plasma at an excellent price. however its not full hd resolution! i was wondering if there are any of these industrial plasmas which have the full 720p/1080i resolution so i can make the most of sky HD or 360! ide rather just get one of these plasma as i never use the tuner on my tv anyway!

also was wondering, can i get hdmi, dvi, comp connection boxes for these types of plasmas and how much they cost!

if it all adds up then i may as well go the auction route as ill be able to pick up a standard plasma for about a grand.

thanks for any advice!!

looks like a nice screen! but i suppose its going to be expensive?

ive actually taken a look at the other panels and they dont seem to be that cheap. actually, they cost just as much as the normal plasma tv's! so why do people buy a panel and then add-on connection boards when they can just go out and buy a pioneer 43xde for example? was just wondering!

i was under the impression that a plasma panel on its own would be much cheaper than a plasma with a tuner!

They are a bit cheaper probably, cos if you design your system right, you don't need loads of boards, usually just 1 in fact. An external tuner you probably already have, sky? freeview? Often folks prefer the minimalist styling of commercial panels, and ALL, with NO exception, consumer TV plasmas are criminally restricted for connecting PCs to. And in the end, those in pursuit of video perfection will always choose a panel over a TV, they do give a better picture when set up right, yes, better than an XDE, which might be pretty good compared to other plasma TVs, and panels can be connected to video scalers to further enhance the PQ. And of course in a few year's time the tuner in your plasma TV will be obsolete, but the one in your separates system can be easily replaced if needed, and could be a PVR, like a Topfield or sky+ or telewest TV drive. Way more useful than any on board tuner.

Exactly. It's got nothing to do with price, other than I'm not paying for crap like SCART, freeview tuners and speakers that I don't want.
