Any Ideas?

Right, ill start off by saying that I am completely new to surround sound/home cinema kits, so I have not got a clue where to start, which is hopefully where you guys could help me out.

I am after some form of surround sound set-up and have been advised that buying all the items individually is better than buying a out of the box full set-up. So I was just wondering what items would I need, would just a AV Reciever and some speakers be sufficient or do I need more?

I am not after nothing too flashy, and therefore nothing that costs an arm and a leg, lets say around £400-£450 for the lot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Depends entirely on what you want to put through it and what you want from it. I have an AV receiver and some rather large speakers, but in my friends case, and his mrs, subtlety and simplicity were the key, so an all-in-one (without built in DVD player) was the better choice (essentially it's the same thing - an AVR and 5 speakers + sub, but it's a package deal ready to go out the box)

So work out what stuff you want to put through it - PS3, Xbox, Freeview/Freesat/Sky/Virgin, media player/pc, ipod, etc etc etc and then you can work out what your requirements are ;)

Well I would only be connecting my PS3 too it for the time being, and My TV of course which has Freeview built into it.
