The ability to upscale PS3 games to 1080p would be nice.

It does it with PS2 games !!!

    Controllers auto-power-off now.

Miniclips (thumbnails) in the videos section, and game clips in the games folder all load up synchronized now. Quitting from game into XMB transitions quicker.(Aesthetic/Efficiency Update)

    Confirmed: PS1/PS2 Compatibility updated.

    Apparently.............

Apologies for the 'noob' related question, but I haven't got my PS3 yet.

I've seen a lot of posts on various sites about people getting excited about Update 2.0. As this is 1.92, will there be 7 more 'minor' updates before 2.0 or does it not work that logically ???

    Thx.

2.0 is just a rumour.. there may not even *be* a 2.0 - It'd be kinda funny if Sony went straight to 2.1. Lots of speculation about what may be in it, no facts.

We have no idea how many firmwares there will be between now and the next big update, or when it will appear. Sony don't give that information away. Updates so far have been roughtly once a month.. Home is due in October apparently, so there's some speculation we'll have a big update just before that.

    Guys, pasted from: http://ps3.qj.net/-UPDATE-3-PS3s-st...-out-with-complete-changelog/pg/49/aid/101596

Yes folks, Sony sneaked in another update to your CELL BE-powered console, and if you log in to the PlayStation Network right now, you could be prompted to advance to firmware 1.92.

We have reason to believe that the update is simultaneously released worldwide, although the official statement of release follows in a certain order: Japan, Europe, and North America.

Details on the new PS3 firmware's changelog are sketchy (we're still downloading it), but we'll update you on what we find out about FW 1.92. Rumor has it that the update should allow for downloading to USB storage devices (or support it), plus certain updates to allow Incognito's Warhawk to be played over Sony's servers.

We all know we need something more concrete, so feel free to confirm this. Just over a month fresh from firmware 1.90, we're now seeing another FW update, adding and tons of changes to Sony PlayStation 3s worldwide.

Thanks to salimdao and dyll for the heads up!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: Just after a mere few hours of going live, a lot of PlayStation 3 users have already downloaded the official firmware 1.92. While Sony has yet to release an official changelog, the PS3 community took it upon itself to discover the developments that were rolled out with the update.

The following information below were from QJ.NET readers, our own observation, forum members, as well as those who are actively discussing this surprise update over at the official PlayStation Forum:

    Ability to add Flash wallpapers
    Seemingly faster XMB load times
XMB screensaver option (which was there prior to this but just became popular because of this)
    Improvements on Internet Browser application
Auto power off for the controllers
    Thumbnails in the video section
Synchronized game clips in the games folder load up
Faster transition from game to XMB
    Updated PSOne/PS2 controller compatibility

Typically a x.0 (i.e. 2.0) update will be something major; something that adds a significant piece of functionality.

x.xs (i.e. 1.92) updates tend to involve bug-fixes or minor enhancements to software.

This is the basic gist of versioning software development.

The flash wallpapers thing was apparently a joke that someone started that got out of hand. Not sure I'd trust most of the rest of it either (auto power off for example would require an update to the controller itself). I wouldn't rely on that list.. stick to the official changelog.. which is:

    Faster playstation store.
    PS2 compatibility update.

Also worth mentioning that revisons with a x.x1 or other odd number tend to be interim patches not intended for release, kind of like an in house patch that is still being worked on, and when finished and ready for release will go on to become x.x2.

Hence why this one isnt 1.91.

[QUOTE=Tony Hoyle (auto power off for example would require an update to the controller itself)

Why would that require an update for the controller? When you switch off your PS3, the controller automatically goes to sleep/off, without me touching the controller, therefore, it should be entirely possible to do that via a PS3 software update.

You Wouldn't need to modify the controller the PS3 is quite capable of turning off the blue-tooth signal from the Sixaxis it does it for loading PS2 games after all hence why you have to push the PS button to turn it back on.. all the PS3 needs do is shut of the signal after a set time of no Sixaxis use which is what the 1.92 update is said to do.
