I'm sure there must be someone using this configuration. My question is about resolutions.

As I understand it, 1280 x 720 gives borders, so:

    1) What resolution do you run the desktop at for normal work?
    2) If you use FFDShow to resize to 1920 x 1080, is the border problem resolved?
    3) Any other tips or hints for using HDMI from an HCPC?

    Thanks :)

PS Before any says that you should just use VGA, I already have the HDMI cable installed, which cannot be moved :(

I tried my HTPC with a HS50 at Shoot and Show, the vga worked fine and produced a decent picture, the HDMI seemed blurred and soft as though not properly mapped so I gave up because we were limited for time, but as mine should arrive tomorrow (fingers crossed) I'll have more time to experiment....if the dvi-hdmi adapter turns up.

Where have you ordered your HDMI-DVI adapter from John? I've got a 5m DVI cable already running in my wall and over my ceiling, popping out at my ceiling mount, so I need to buy a DVI female > HDMI male adapter. I've seen one on ebay for £13 plus £5 postage.

The one I bought was a Supra version, from AV Land, for £40

Lindy and Hifibitz both sell them, but have no stock

Thanks Samir. Hmmmm, not in stock but I'm in no rush, I'm waiting on a refund on my AE500 before I splash out on a Z3 or the HS50 (the latter being more likely). Then I'll ask lmp to supply a replacement mount plate for the ceiling mount (Andy at lmp is very helpful  ) and sort out this adapter :)

I ordered the one from hifibitz, my dvi cable was alraedy in place from my hs10 so the dongle type adapter seems the best option for me.

I did try a dvi to hdmi calbe from my HTPC at Shoot and Show when I demoed the HS50, the picture compared to vga was rubbish and with limited time we continued the dem using the vga instead.

I'm hoping that with some tweaking the hdmi from HTPC can be improved because there was nothing wrong with the picture from a hdmi dvd player.

Still waiting fro the adapter though....

    John,

I had a chance to play with the HS50 and DVI (+ dongle from AV Land) yesterday. The initial picture looks terrible, but some tweaking soons leads to excellent results. I may try to get hold of a VGA cable to try it after Xmas, although I'm not sure how I could install it.

Chris, as it looks like you’re just down the road from me, you’re quite welcome to borrow my spare 5m Van Damme VGA cable if you want.

I’d also be interested in seeing the HS50 running if you wouldn’t mind as this is on my shopping list for early next year.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for the offer of a loan of your cable. It may just stretch for testing purposes, although I think it might just be to short. My DVI is 7.5m but to be fair, does run under the floor. In terms of a visit, can you make next week at all? I'm on holiday all week so arranging a time should be easy if you are around.

I’m back at work Wed, Thu and Friday, but I don’t see why I couldn’t take a long lunch break say Thursday.

    I’ll PM my phone number
