I'm saving for a PS3 / HDTV combo and IDEALLY would like to get a 1080p TV to go with it. I love the look of those Mirais, great value, but 1080i. So wondered if anyone with the knowledge here has anything to suggest?

Thanks!

MATE, i REALLY, wouldnt worry about 1080p at 32"
you wont see any difference than 1080i
i dont even rate my 1080i sony 's' series bravia @32" for HDTV, its better than SD but you really need 42" to get a wow factor IMO

Even for gaming? I seem to remember reading that the resolution isn't really a factor for normal TV but may have an impact on gaming.

If that isn't the case, then I may keep saving for that Mirai (or perhaps that Sammy thats listed right at the top of this forum!).

afaik you can't buy a 32" TV with native 1080p resolution in the UK at the moment. I think there are some like the Panasonic 600 which will accept 1080p signals but it only has a 1366x768 resolution panel so downscales it. Similarly the Mirai TV you mentioned as being 1080i probably accepts 1080i signals but still has to convert them to it's 768p panel.

There was a post a day or 2 back about a company in Japan, possibly Sharp, announcing a 32" 1080p resolution panel but it could be a while before we see them in Europe.

As to how much difference you will see with a 1080 line 32" screen who knows. It might be a help for 1080 sources like HD-DVD & possibly games if the console actually renders it at 1920x1080 rather than just upscaling 1280x720. Just been reading a thread where 720p & 1080p projectors were compared on a 130" screen from about 4m & most people thought there wasn't anymore detail in the 1080p one!

So in essence, it could be pretty much going for the top spec for the sake of having the top spec?

Like shelling out for a Core2Duo Extreme Quad Core monster to squeeze just one FPS more out of Oblivion.

Hmmm.

I might take a step back then. I'm going to see how the PS3 pans out (especially wait for MGS4, GT5, FFXIII etc to surface) and perhaps grab that with either a 32" or 37" Mirai.

If you're using a 32" as a PC monitor as well (text/photos) then a 1080P definietly will help, a 1366x730 screen is a bit too low resolution. So I wouldn't say a 1080p 32" is a waste at all.

Nah, can't forsee a PC being hooked up to this thing. Most likely a PS3, or if I decide otherwise, 360 or even a Wii.
