Much as I'm enjoying first person shooters and driving games I wouldn't mind a bit of variety on my PS3.

Are there any (prefereably half decent) Gauntlet style games out there that are worth a look?

Well there is the original Gauntlet available from the PS Store. £2.99 if memory serves me. Good for a quick trip down memory lane but it must be said that the years have perhaps clouded my recollection. Loved hearing "The Wizard is about to die" and "Elf shot the food" again but was bored after maybe half an hour. You can play on line with others but there's no comms and I doubt there'd be many people still playing it now anyway.

As an aside this was def my last trip down memory lane to my days in the 80's in the arcades or playing my beloved PS1 games. All been a bit of a let down.

Joust - mince and more repetitive than I remember

Rampage - fun for 15 minutes only

G Police - Can't believe how short the draw distance was! Still great game though.

The list goes on. Will be interested to see what others suggest as a modern day Gauntlet replacement!

Games you *used* to love never seem to be as good nowadays.

There are the two Untold Legends games for PSP which I think maybe available on the PSN for download although I don't know if they are also playable on the PS3. Sacred 2 is coming out on the PS3 although it's more of a third person view point as opposed to a top down one. The original Gauntlet I believe was also redone for Xbox Live Arcade if you have a 360.

Gauntlet 2 is on the PSN - its ace adn you can go online (although I've never managed to find anyone online!!!)

Played it 4-player with the lads and its just as good as in the arcade

    "Wizard shot the food"

I'm not to fussed about getting the original Gauntlet games as I have a full size arcade machine running MAME to play them on , and have Gauntlet Legends on the original X-Box.

I was just hoping for something in that vein with modern graphics, which seems to be wishful thinking.

It's not gauntlet but there is a game coming out called 'the fat princess' which is a multiplayer game. It's got a top down perspective (not plan view slightly more to the side). But the characters are slightly similar (warrior, archer, wizard etc) and the style is similar

You have two teams starting in two castles each with the other teams princess in them and you have to rescue your princess and stop the other team from rescuing theirs.

This is done by fighting them off, building things to help defend your castle and by feeding their princess cake so she gets fat so it takes more of them to carry her.

It's done in a quirky style and looks like a good laugh

It's an upright that I've had for about 6 or 7 years now based on a fairly common Jamma cab with a 21" monitor.

There's an old article I wrote about it here.
    MAME-PC arcade cabinet mod - www.techangel.co.uk - angelic, technically...

I've also got an Atari Roadblasters at the mo and have previously had a Gauntlet II which got sold to make room , and a tabletop MAME as well that got ebayed for a profit after I'd finished it.

That looks the sort of thing I'd enjoy.

    Thanks :smashin:
